I'm thinking the numbers of illegal immigrants attending college is too low to cause much concern (?).
Are you saying that it should not cause much concern to Annapolis or to us?I'm thinking the numbers of illegal immigrants attending college is too low to cause much concern (?).
It amazes me that Deomocrats will never understand the word ILLEGAL.Just another little benefit of allowing the Democrats to run the state. When will people learn.
Do you want to step back a second and consider how stupid this makes you sound? How many illegals identify themselves as such when they go to Freshman Welcoming day?
I can't believe this is even an option...like...how did this bill even get this far??

How many illegals can GET in to college in the first place, even if they lied about their status? I am not in favor of them getting in state tuition, I just think it's not such a big issue to be eating up time and tax $$$ for the legistlature to even be debating.
I hate to say it because I genuinely like you and enjoy reading your posts, but you're speaking out of your azz.Moi sounds stupid? Think it over for a minute. CBS said:This act isn't much of a deterrent. It's estimated that the majority of the 125,000 illegal immigrants attending the nation's colleges and universities are eligible for in-state tuition rates.
CBS said:Thomas Sowell, Roger Clegg, and Ed Blum have noted recently that illegal immigrants who are members of preferred minority groups are entitled to other benefits unavailable to the vast majority of American citizens.
CBS said:At some schools, preferred-minority applicants are up to 100 times more likely to be admitted than similarly situated non-preferred (i.e., Asian or white) comparatives. Affirmative-action programs at some schools are structured in a way that, beyond a minimum level of qualification, preferred-minority applicants are virtually guaranteed admission. Consider the advantage to the illegal immigrant residing in, say, Illinois, who is also a preferred minority: If he applies to an Illinois state school with a typical affirmative-action program, he's dozens of times more likely to be admitted over a more qualified Asian or white U.S. citizen and will pay tens of thousands less for tuition than a U.S. citizen from outside the state. As the comedian Yakov Smirnoff—a legal immigrant—might say, "What a country!"
The preferences don't end at the undergrad level. Illegal immigrants from preferred-minority groups are also preferred in law-school admissions. In fact, the American Bar Association recently sought to compel law schools to grant preferences to certain minorities; schools that failed to do so could lose their ABA accreditation. No law school is excused—even if it's located in a state that has outlawed preferences (e.g., post-Prop. 209 California). Interpretation 211-1 of ABA Standard 211 makes the following breathtaking admonition: "The requirements of a constitutional provision or statute that purports to prohibit consideration of gender, race, ethnicity, or national origin in admissions or employment decisions is not a justification for a school's non-compliance with Standard 211 (mandating diversity)". In other words, "diversity" trumps the law, so schools better engage in preferences, or else.
In the next several months, high-school seniors will begin the college-application process in earnest. Many will soon discover that having a 4.0 GPA, 1500 SATs, and a dazzling extracurricular list means less than having the proper ethnicity. And being a U.S. citizen means nothing at all.

Last Census figures on school and college enrollment.
Estimated 125,000 illegal immigrants enrolled in college (per Andy's article).
In 1999 the total enrollment for all colleges in the US was around 15 million.
125,000/ 15,000,000= 0.00833333 or 0.8% of the total college population.
Which is why I wonder if the time and money spent on this debate and all the hubub in the press and blogosphere is worth it? Aren't there other immigration related issues that they could be debating on our dime?
Wouldn't you agree that there would be more, many more, illegal immigrants in college if the Government put them in with all these wonderful financial discounts I'm paying for.http://www.census.gov/prod/2001pubs/p20-533.pdf

I'm already pissed off that I have to learn a new language because State laws require it.
I'm an American, and I have to learn Spanish to get a higher education in America?
any measureable amount is too much.
any measureable amount is too much. You usually seem to make sense in your opinions....and I usually agree for the most part...but I think here you may have someone close to you that is an illegal and possible attends or wants to attend college...
Just a thought though. I could be wrong
I just think that as far as the whole debate over illegal immigration goes, this is a minor issue. How about giving the current laws on the books a little teeth by funding enforcement?

They want the votes and the money. They are a part of something. Even though it's driving people, money, companies, and money out of MD, they belong to something.I dont really understand this. I have never heard anyone in any conversation i have ever been in say that illegal aliens should get in state tuition fees.
WTF are these people in Annapolis doing this for?
