In the Market for a New Camera

A Salute to all on Watch
We got a Nikon coolpix P90 and we love it. 12.1 megapixels, wide 24x zoom, 3 inch vari-angle monitor (if you're taking shots above or below you can see your shot without looking through the viewfinder), iso 6400 (whatever the hell that means). If you want to try it out pm me, I can bring it to you or you can come over.

Is it that simple and takes good photo's? I will be in the market for a nice(inexpensive) digital camera in the near future and have heard good things on the coolpix, can't remember the model though

In that case, DSLR (Canon or Nikon...I prefer Canon). Like Bob said, they all have a full-auto mode if you don't want to think about it. The big advantage is the sensor size which will get you better picture in lower light situations (like indoors).

Ball park figure w/access. ?

I really like it, I can't really remember how much it was :brainfart:
I was getting some great shots of the birds at the feeder on the last snowy day we had.

Cool make sure you post up some pix when you get a chance. :)

Methodically disorganized
Does anyone know if a canon with 10-12 megapixels will provide clarity on things such as jewelry up close? Do I need a special lens or will a higher megapixel number do it?
I could recommend a couple good places to call for customer service. :yay:

I have been thinking of getting a new camera myself also. Right now I have a sony with 5 megapixels. I need something that can take good pictures of jewelry up close for my business. The camera you have will probably take excellent close up pictures. If you're going to publish (print) the pictures in a large format, higher resolution will be better. If you're posting on E-bay, 5 meg is plenty.
Read the owners manual on how to use the close up features, use supplemental lighting (not the flash), a tripod and if you have an aperture priority mode on you camera, set it to allow the object to be in focus

:yeahthat: Also a trick that I learned from my brother...go to Lowes/WalMart/somewhere and get a roll-down window shade. They're cheap (~$5), store easily, and make a nice continuous white backdrop for your product.

Nightlife, If you are just doing ebay pictures I think you can get the 5 MP to work or getting a 10-12 MP camera will do great.

If you are looking at doing something more serious than ebay you may have other issues than just a camera. There are some other big considerations for doing ad style jewlery photography. If you are looking to do catolog or ad pictures PM me and I can hook you up with some good info.
