iPhone versus Android

How does everyone feel about touch-screen phones? I am considering an iPhone, but can't decide if I am going to be happy without the slide out QWERTY keyboard. I feel like the touch-screen would be difficult to use.

I love Swype. It holds the texting speed record.

...and its not available for the iPhone.

What do you use it for? There are similar apps for Android that I loaded and never used. Uninstalled.

All alarm clock functions and texting. I keep forgetting I can use it to make phone calls. Also, I tease it by asking it inappropriate questions.

I just haven't seen the iphone do anything a droid can't..and with the iphone you basically pick white or black..with droid there are tons to choose from...and I have to have a physical keyboard myself..plus I like thinner phones..SO has to get "ruggedized" phones cuz he's hell on em..etc

Android has had voice texting for probably 2+ years. I've used it a couple times while driving. Otherwise, I prefer to type.

I only have one alarm to set (on/off), so I can't see that being incredibly useful. But my alarm does tell me (by voice) what the weather forecast is for the day. If I got the paid version, it would also tell me my agenda and read the news to me.

Well, there's lots of things.... like watching movies on a smaller screen for starters. :roflmao:

That does bring up an important difference...with iPhone, you get a 3.5" screen. With Android...choose you screen size. You can get a miniature screen like the iPhone has if you want it. Or you can go pretty much as big as you want. Personally, I can't imagine going back to anything smaller than 4.3" (what the DX has).

I thought I would like the bigger screens, too, but for me the size of the phone was exceeding what I wanted to have in my pocket all day. Usually when I first but a new phone I go all crazy with the case, but eventually get rid of them because they make the phone too big.

I do have one criticism of the iPhone; it is so slick that you cannot place it on any surface that is not completely level.

I'm probably a bad example, because I definitely do not take advantage of its features.

I don't think anybody does. Basically, it is a much-hyped, unoriginal, not-so-useful feature.

BTW, here's a little Siri humor (you might want headphones due to cursing)...

Really? I just went through the thread again and must have missed them again. Can you point some out?

Well, for me it is Siri and automatically synching with my home computer. Also, I have never had an app lock up or crash, never had my phone complain that it is 'full' (Verizon rep told me that was a known issue), and all youtube videos have played so far. My Droid was very hit and miss in that department.

I'm not trying to convince anyone. Pete just asked for opinions. My opinion is that my Incredible was a piece of #### and this 4S rules.

The Incredible was a POS. That's not Android's fault. That's HTC's fault.

And Android automatically syncs to the cloud. I'm sure it could be set to sync to a computer if you wanted to.

I've had two Droids, the orignial and the incredible, then I got my iPhone and it will take something substantial to happen for me to ever switch. I used to carry around an iPod and a phone, now I just have my phone.

The free apps on droid were always full of bugs and quirks and locked up my phone...I don't really have any problems with my iPhone..There are a lot of apps that are free on iPhone, I do my banking, pay bills, get movie tickets, pay insurance, fantasty football, watch football..etc etc etc...not saying you can't do that on Droid, but the apps weren't available when I left 6 months ago...plus I have a Golf GPS app that I paid 35 bucks for that works WAAAY better than my 250.00 SkyCaddie....

I don't really get into the whole Droid v iPhone thing...My Droid served it's purpose, but I like my iPhone better...I'm sure there are others who feel different...to each their own.
