iPhone versus Android

The free apps on droid were always full of bugs and quirks and locked up my phone...I don't really have any problems with my iPhone..There are a lot of apps that are free on iPhone, I do my banking, pay bills, get movie tickets, pay insurance, fantasty football, watch football..etc etc etc...not saying you can't do that on Droid, but the apps weren't available when I left 6 months ago...plus I have a Golf GPS app that I paid 35 bucks for that works WAAAY better than my 250.00 SkyCaddie....

I don't really get into the whole Droid v iPhone thing...My Droid served it's purpose, but I like my iPhone better...I'm sure there are others who feel different...to each their own.

:buddies:

Word. There are several apps for iPhone that I use almost every day that were not available for Droid.

Well, I'll say this. It's unfair to compare Android from a year ago to iPhone today. Unlike iPhone, Android has evolved significantly (mostly in hardware). And it will evolve even more significantly over the next couple months when Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) takes over. At that point, both Android phones and tablets will be using the same OS and the same apps. That means that the Android tablet app offerings will obliterate the iPad app offerings. It will also mean far more Android users than iOS users (which is already the case) so it will attract more developers to Android as the primary development goal and iOS as the next in line.

I recently switched phones to one with a slide-out keyboard after almost 2 years of not having one. I HATED the experience of the virtual keyboard. Spent so much time correcting typos and was constantly frustrated with it. I will never buy a phone without a keyboard again.

I just got the Droid 3 (with slid out keyboard and LOVE it!!). Plus i went through Amazonwireless, and saved about $0.00 over what verizon was asking for the phone.

Pete, another data point for you. My buddy got the Thunderbolt for himself recently. He got his wife an iPhone and after playing with it now hates his Thunderbolt with a white hot passion.

I don't know anyone who had an iPhone, hated it, and switched to Droid or I'd post that, too.

Thanks. My droid is good but it does hang up quite a bit, is slow, resets things like notification tones and settings from time to time. It works fine mostly but it doesn't seem nearly as smooth and solid as the iPhones I pick up at the Verizon store.

My Droid 2 is a year or so old and I will have it as a back up. I have a couple days to decide but I want to get something before they do away witht he new every 2 program.

I've got the Thunderbolt and LOVE it! Hubby -- who has an iPhone -- really likes my phone, too. BUT, he'll never own anything other than an iPhone. He's an Apple follower true to the heart.

Pete,
I had the Droid and recently got the Thunderbolt from Verizon and all of my biothes about my Droid hanging up and being slow to react to my touch have gone away, very happy with the TBolt

It's very easy to avoid...don't download shady apps.

You and I and even some here understand that; unfortunately the majority does not delve into it. I love the idea of Android but when it comes down to it I don't want to think about my phone. I want to pick it up and use it just like I do a blender or a microwave.

I love Google and their products but they have never been customer focused. They could be more like Amazon and put some walls up around their marketplace. The OEMs also get in the way of Android because they are only interested in releasing a new phone every other month and not updating the OS on their current models. Sure I could put another ROM on it but again I want it to be something I don't think about. I deal with cyber security all day outside of that I just want to do woodworking or beer brewing. :buddies:

If you don't download porn apps from China, you're fine. If you do, then you're an moron who deserves a virus (preferably a real one that removes you from the gene pool).

Yes, the OEMs get in the way, but they are getting better about OS updates. Google is also taking steps to reduce their influence. On the flipside, some OEMs actually add useful functionality. For example, the RAZR has "Smart Actions", "Motocast", and better security. These things might just show up in "vanilla" Android in the future...especially once Google takes over Motorola.

Stupid question....is there a GPS type app on the iPhone? I used the "Map" feature the other day and it sucked.
