Any bets that if Ronnie Reagan was still President, the Brits would not have been taken and Iran would have said, "Nukes. We really don't need nukes. We have all this oil. Sure we will dismantle our nuke program." Seem to me that Iran backed down to Ronnie on his inauguration day.

Iran gave back the hostages, yet faced no repercussions for their actions. That told them everything they needed to know: they can get away with anything they want to do.

Iran wasn't afraid of Ronnie, as they showed through the rest of his time in office. They were far more antagonistic while Ronnie was in power than they are now. When is the last time you heard of them firing shots at U.S. ships? Or laying minefields targeting U.S. shipping?

Do you recall why Iran released the hostages? Ronnie had said he was going to use our military if they were not released. They were released almost at the exact moment of his inauguration. The moment in time he could direct our military as CIC.

I recall being 500 yards away from a U.S. flagged ship hitting an Iranian mine, and then dodging mines for the next two days. I also recall Iranian boats shooting at U.S. warships. This is while Ronnie was still in power.

Iran may have been afraid of Ronnie on day one of his presidency, but it sure didn't last.

Maybe so.

It does no good to have a big stick if you don't whack someone with it when they hit you. That is our problem. We have a very big stick and the little guys tweak our noses all the time. It is right not to go to war at the drop of a hat, but if you are never willing to go to war, why have a military at all?

We're willing to go to war, but the problem is that we take our big stick, wrap it in a few layers of bubble wrap, barely swing, an then ask if the person who got hit is ok.

That is not what I consider going to war.

I avoid fighting. I have not been in a fight since high school. I am a nanadan. I can fight ... well. I practice at least twice a week. I don't want to fight, but if forced to fight, I will fight to the best of my ability.

The U.S. should do the same thing. Also, after every war, the U.S. stays around to build up the country defeated. We are the only country in history to do that; rebuild instead of plunder. I don't think we should plunder, but I also don't think we need to rebuild. Those we rebuild don't appreciate it anyway. Goes to you can't buy friends. It should be - go to war with us, we leave you in a pile of rubble. Have fun cleaning up. Oh, by the way, that section over there won't be inhabitable for the next 100 years of so.
