But that's not what's happening. The whole thing has turned into a partisan witch hunt and it's embarrassing to see these supposed "intelligent men and women" acting like this.

The whole idea was to get to the bottom of security breaches and weaknesses that left us vulnerable to attack. Now it's just about Democrats trying to make Bush and Rice look incompetent and Republicans trying to fend off accusations.

Sorry about that chief.
Sorry Larry process is not everyting in government. The most important thing in government is CYA. The watergate-er-9/11 hearings were originally pooh-poohed by W, after hue & cry he said "do 'em" then he was "too busy" to testify, after hue & cry he said he would. It is about image not fact finding or process. A lot of the "patriot" act is also about image, we have to do something to show Mr & Mrs Voter we care, of course once Ashcroft got his fingers into it the thing became over the top.

Speaking of Ashcroft, I noticed that Justice now has a chain link fence around it with barbed wire on top. Fences & more guns will not stop the threat, we are becoming a police state (shoe x-rays at the airport, metal detectors in every public building & big sports events, kids being investigated by the secret service for drawing devil pix of W, etc) and folks don't seem to care.

This administration is playing heavily (in fact I think singularly) on fear & threat in it's reelection ploy, every commercial I've seen is about threat & how good old W and the republicans can save us, while Kerry and the dems will release the terrorists, kind of reminds me of Willie Horton.

We have nothing to fear except fear itself.

But IT IS working...

Messy at it is, thanks to Don Inquistor De la Vellepin Ben Veniste
no one can argue that hard, mean questions that absolute opponents would ask were NOT asked. Goofy as he is, Bob 'Can you believe I was a SEAL' Kerrey has asked the dumb questions. Thanks to Ms. Gorelick, people can see that an insider FROM THE OTHER SIDE made her case. And thanks to the ranking old dog GOP'ers arguing that everyone is doing a good job there is an air of thoroughness to the commission that will allow no one to argue as valid that the commssion soft shoe'd anything.

Before the Commissions appointment, Bush said 'nah, we don't need no commission. Me and Congress is doing a good job."

Some people said 'A HA!"

So, we have a commission.

Bush said 'Condi are not needed to testify in open hearings.'

Some people said 'double a ha!'.

So, Condi appeared.

Bush said 'Dick and I is not needed to testify'.

Some people said 'triple super a ha!"

So, Chenney and the President will testify as did, thought the major media didn't care, Clinton.

Then, W said the August 01 PDB are not needed as it are classified'.

Some people said 'QUAD!!! AH HA AH HA AH HA!!!!'

So, we've seen the memo.

Richard Clarke had his incredibly embarrassing, for him, 15 minutes, and now no one will ever be held over from a prior administration again because of Dick and his empty, self serving claims.

Thus the commission. I have been reassured, though I didn't need it, that adults are competently running the country.
The country in turn has been reassured that Democrats are totally partisan and...dumb.

They knew EVERYTHING that came out before hand. They had hoped, obviously, to paint the President in the worst possible light. The President, in turn, proved again to be the person so many trust. He just said 'Shucks fellas, if you insist."

And his poll numbers went up.

So, the Dems have gone back to WMD, rush to war, Scare America and other failed Wiley E Coyote schemes. Next week they're trotting out Gore to scare you that the WHOLE planet is being killed by W.

Yeah, that'll work.

Don'tcha just love unintended consequences?

Your view...

Willie was brought to light by none other than Prince Albert 'Kick me I'm stupid' Gore.

The left has done NOTHING but say 'we are NO safer because of Iraq!'

The left says 'Bush hasn't gotten Osama! We're in danger!'

The left says 'W is incompetent! We're in danger!"

The lefts says 'W didn't do ENOUGH to PREVENT 9/11".

The left says "W is DOING to MUCH to prevent another 9/11!'

It's like the damn robot in "Lost in Space'

DANGER! DANGER!! and the power goes out...ddannnnggeerrrr....err...er...fade to dangling robot arms...

:offtopic: but that's one of my reasons for loathing Democrats. They keep trying to blame Willie Horton on Big Bushy, conveniently forgetting that it was GORE who made Horton a star. Then they try to say it's racist because Horton happens to be black. Well, who's fault is that?

As the resolution turns...

NEXT PARA:

Whereas Iraq both poses a continuing threat to the national security of the United States and international peace and security in the Persian Gulf region and remains in material an unacceptable breach of its international obligations by, among other things, continuing to possess and develop a significant chemical and biological weapons capability, actively seeking a nuclear weapons capability, and supporting and harboring terrorist organizations;
