I was in Adak during the 8.5 in 86, it was freaky

Learn to stop over-inflating your knowledge of all things military dillwad. :duh: Do you know how many people take and pass those tests? I could rattle off a minimum of 20 tests I've taken and passed for the bazillion different jobs in the military, most recruits do, hell, your recruiter will even promise you that you can be a flyboy or go through OCS. It doesn't mean you'd even be close to being one. You try and make it sound like YOU got to pick and choose, when in reality, the AF didn't want you. :duh: :loser:

Sorry, I didn't mean to patronize or confuse, I know well enough that recruiters will say anything to meet a quota. I aced the AF pilot test, they were salivating until they saw my background check, then they showed me the door. Had too much fun in my youth I suppose.

:buttkiss: First he doesn't give a rat's arse if the Marine gets beheaded, now he's sucking up to all the vets and swapping sea stories:confused:

Maybe because I've been close to it before Voter, I never said I didn't care about it, I just said he & his family shouldn't be surprised by it. When you get shot at during a battle, you have a little different feeling about it. You certainly don't cry too much about battle death, it is part of the contract.

Go back to reading your Tom Clancy stories.

LIAR

Boo hoo, a combatant is captured and we worry that he may die?
but why all the boo-hooing over a military man possibly meeting his demise
We can just pray that he is only beheaded, not tortured

 Sounds to me like someone who doesn't give a damn about the Marine being beheaded....call it like I see it....

Sorry about that chief.
There is a difference between concern and feigned overconcern. I see a lot of the "boohooing" as feigned overconcern, wringing hands & such. A marine got captured by the enemy & will probably die, should we be concerned yes, should we worry no. He is a marine has been taught from day one to fight & not get captured, if he dies, it will be in service to his country.

Does anybody cry when a marine gets shot directing traffic in Baghdad? I don't hear any outcry on this board about it. Is it the same thing? Similar maybe. A death that shouldn't happen, not in combat but during mundane activity in a war zone but it still shouldn't happen.

Now it appears he was AWOL too: http://edition.cnn.com/2004/WORLD/meast/06/30/missing.marine/

Why do I hope he is only beheaded & not tortured? Well, if you know all the things they can do to him, you may be praying for a swift end too bucko.

Don't you think it might be a tad better to pray for his release:confused: We all know it probably won't happen, but if you are in the praying mode, might as well shoot for the best outcome.....

That can't be possible. I thought only the US did bad things to POWs.

Sorry about that chief.
The US I fought for and remember never did bad things to POWs, it was always the other side. In fact we treated the POWs better than their own army treated them. In fact during PGW #1, I saw them thanking us for capturing them. I doubt many Americans would thank their captors.

...Oh.....in an attempt to explain why so many here think you are a vile arse, we all know that being killed in combat is a possibility and is faced by all who participate in combat, but beheading is not combat death - it is a vile war crime.

Article 147 of the Fourth Geneva Convention defines war crimes as: "Wilful killing, torture or inhuman treatment, including... wilfully causing great suffering or serious injury to body or health, unlawful deportation or transfer or unlawful confinement of a protected person, compelling a protected person to serve in the forces of a hostile power, or wilfully depriving a protected person of the rights of fair and regular trial, ...taking of hostages and extensive destruction and appropriation of property, not justified by military necessity and carried out unlawfully and wantonly."

There IS a difference between being killed in combat and this Marine being possibly beheaded - you are just too ignorant to tell the difference.

Well I thought these guys were terrorists and not covered under international law? Isn't that what Bush his cronies said, isn't that what this administration argued to the supreme court yesterday, isn't that why we put them in Gitmo instead of on US soil? I may be considered vile, but not as vile as that argument.

Never said that they fell under the Geneva convention....just showing the difference between a combat death and a war crime (beheading) and to illustrate that there is a difference and not every death over there can be lumped by arses like you into one catagory.

I am being called a traitor because I don't march lock step with the policies of Bush, well paint my azz & call me Sally, what is this country coming to? Glad our founding fathers didn't see things the way you do, we'd all be driving on the left & have a monarchy.

I do. His/her family do. His/her fellow Marines do. His/her friends do. Other old soldiers like me do.

If I supported the war, I may feel that way, in fact it would make my support stronger. Now it just strengthens my resolve against it.
