Irresponsible? I think so...

Is she for real? :banghead: <---linky

So, she wants to "breeded" her mixed dog, in order to get just one puppy? So there are going to be several other 'mutt' puppies in the litter that are going to need good homes. Why not just adopt from a shelter?

Besides, anyone who breeds their dog hoping to get one 'just' like the mom/dad is an idiot. There are no guarantees they'll have similar personalities.

Ans she wants to "breeded" him with another Bull Mastiff, Cane COSRO Mastiff, Rotty or Pit Bull? :twitch:

The bad part about that is, there are idiots that will take her up on the offer.

This person has been posting this ad for at least a couple of months, maybe that means no one has been dumb enough to take her up on it.

No more irresponsible than breeding "pure breds". People breed pure breds together for their traits all the time.

I'm personally more of a mutt person. They tend to have better dispositions and less health problems.

It's entirely irresponsible. Why add to the population by 4 or 5 just to get a single puppy? Purebred or mutt, surely what you're looking for can be found at a local rescue or shelter.

All she has to do is take a walk through Tri-County and then let her conscience be her guide.

I've never understood the hypocrisy of thinking it's acceptable to breed pure breds but not mixed breeds. It's not just muts you find in a local shelter. The point I was trying to make was, why is it such an atrocity to do mixed breeding, but not pure breeding. Know what I mean?

Personally, I don't care if you breed or don't breed, what you breed, what you don't breed. Breed until you are blue in the face just so long as you can guarantee none wind up in a pound or abandoned along side the road.

Do you get any idea from the ad that the advertiser would turn out to be 'one of those'? The one who would ensure suitable forever homes for the litter? I don't. So by that rationale I hope no one takes them up on their request.

Well, what reason would breeders have to breed mutts? Is there a shortage? They can't guarantee looks, personality, or behavior. A purebred breeder should be breeding to improve the breed. They should breed animals that are typey, those that have good confirmation, personality, and health. When you breed a mixed breed, you don't really know what the puppy will look like or act like. I know not all purebred animals act the same, but all beagles sniff and bay, herding dogs herd, etc. With purebred dogs, it is fairly easy to predict how they will act.

If someone is breeding just to make cute puppies for pets, then they're not doing anyone any favors. There are already enough animals in the shelters. I prefer mutts...I just like them better. But there's no way in hello that I'd buy a mutt puppy from a breeder. I'd rather rescue one.

Exactly!
The best dogs we ever had are mutts.

Is there a shortage of pure breds? You can check any shelter and discover there isn't. But people still breed them and people buy them. I don't agree that breeding purebreds is improving the breed. More often than not, you're continuing on genetic defects. You can argue all you want that a responsible breeder doesn't do that, but the fact of the matter is, when it comes to pure breds, most have genetic defects that are common (hip displasia etc). How are you going to breed that out with another with the same tendancy?

Why is it better to breed a dog for any other purpose than being cute? Oh, that's right, income for their breeders. :duh: Don't get me wrong, I don't have anything against breeders. I just find it highly hypocritical when one dictates the reasons to breed as you have above.

Why is it that some dogs are cute and some are ugly, but all cats pretty much look the same with minor variations?

We have a black cat that's just as cute as the gray cat who's just as cute as the gray tiger cat. Calico cats are pretty, so are long hairs, so are Siamese, so are etc etc.

Why is there such a difference between dogs, but not much of one between cats? Because most mutts are just downright ugly and that's the truth.

You think that just because you are a cat person. Personally, I think Siamese cats are ugly and mean. Then you've got the smushed nosed cats etc...

Okay, but there's a huge difference between a St. Bernard and a Shi Tzu - they don't even look remotely the same. There's not a difference like that between cat breeds.

Most dog breeds were bred to work. Hunting, herding, etc. Looks didn't matter as much as ability. "Pet" dogs are a relatively new concept.

Cats have always been pets, so they have been bred to be cute and worthless.
