Is it that time?

Come on mom...its time to go to the vet...:smack:

Hey... my mother gave me medical power of attorney BECAUSE she knows I'd be the one willing to pull the plug...:smack:

Heck, back when she had her knee replaced a few months ago, she'd tell the therapist that she was working really hard in therapy becasue she was afraid I'd pull the plug if she kept on limping...:coffee:

How do you tell with a cat?

She doesn't react when I call her or when the dog is barking around, so she may have hearing loss. Or she may just be ignoring us.

You just answered your question...if she seems to ignore all sounds, esp. your voice, she has hearing loss.

I could walk up behind her and holler her name and clap. She didn't flinch.

Have you also checked the inside of her ears? Are they tinged yellow? Jack's were, as the vet pointed out. She was going into kidney failure.

Friday at 12:30. I feel a sense of relief.

The only other time I had to have a cat put down, he was a only a few years old and had feline AIDS. So it was awful and traumatic. This isn't like that - it's time for me to be responsible and call it a day for her. She's been a good cat and had a good run. :yay:

:huggy: I am so sorry. You are doing the right thing by her. :huggy:

Is it cheesy to have your animal cremated? I did that with my dog and have a box urn in my office.. I think I would do the same for my cat.

I do not think it is cheesy at all. All of my dogs have been cremated, in fact I should be receiving my dogs ashes from last thursday any day now.

Yeah, but she's always ignored me.

She creaks along, doesn't sleep on the bed with me anymore because she can't leap on or off, can barely make it to the couch, that sort of thing. She's an Alzheimer's kitty, which has been going on for a couple of years and I see it every day, but it didn't bother either of us, so no biggie. The physical thing bothers me, although she doesn't act like she's in pain. And the biggest is that she stopped eating about two weeks ago. She's always been a light eater because she's a small cat, but now it's just a few little nibbles a day. That's what tells me it's probably time.

ahhhh V, it sounds like it is the time. I have an 8 year old kitty that looks just like yours - even in the face shape/eyes.

I know you are a strong person. You've had her for 16 years and I guarantee you will break down a bit. You really should consider having a friend go with you just for support. I made the mistake of going alone and had snot bubbles coming out of my nose and could barely see when I was leaving.

I have a rescue in my care that is deaf (didn't used to be). I've tried time and time to test it, and nope, she can't hear.

Oops - earlier I said "16 years" and I realize that was an error. Another friend of mine is going through the same thing and it is HER cat that is 16.
