Is this even legal?

Hi! I need some input, please. We have a neighbor who is the neighborhood pain. We have all had dealings with him on one matter or another. For instance, one neighbor burns limbs or branches that fall in his yard. The pain will call the fire department. We all have at least one acre. The man doesnt like smelling the smoke. He has reported every neighbor that has a dog with excess barking. None bark excessively. Not one.

Well, I was just in our backyard and looked across into his yard. He has mounted a camera to look into our yard! It is one of those wildlife cameras, I think. It has an antenna. Is this even legal?? I think he is trying to catch our dog barking so he can record it. We have talked with the animal warden about this guy because he has reported us several times. Only one dog really barks and he is a beagle. He usually only barks when this man is outside because he appears threatening, I'm sure.

Anyway, is this even legal to have a camera watching someone's yard from another yard? It kind of creeped me out.

We have tried to be good neighbors - even took cookies over when they first moved in several years ago. His wife is very sweet, but he is just weird. Several large trees from his property have fallen on our new fence. Instead of bothering them with it, we fixed the fence ourselves. We don't like to stir up trouble.

As to the beagle, he is a real sweetie. My husband wants to find him a new home because he chases our cats and scares them. I don't want our cats to live in fear either, but am scared to find him a new home because you don't know how people will treat him. Anyone want to adopt a sweet, couch potato beagle who hates cats, please let me know.

Thanks!

Why don't you call the non-emergency number for the local law enforcement and ask them?

Your other option is to spend major bucks to contact an attorney (and it will be major bucks!).

Wishing you luck -- have my own idiot neighbor so I know what you're going through. :huggy:

BB/pellet gun

A laser pointer might screw it up also. Set one in a clamp aimed at the lens whenever you or you dog is in the yard.

Personally, I'd go with the BB gun

We have our own resident PIA. At least that's what I thought until I met her. She is just a lonely older Lady. One of our Cats got caught in her Humane Trap once, and taken to the Shelter. Man...was I pissed, until I heard her side of the Story. She loves her wild Birds, and spends a great deal of money to feed them. She also enjoys watching them. I suspect that is her only entertainment. So I took care of the problem from my end, and keep the Cat indoors.

I do like the laser idea. You want to capture light coming from my property? Here, have some of the coherent kind:) Another option is some sort of kinetic sculpture that is constantly moving, Maybe on of those owl ballons they use to keep scare birds away. If this thing is motion activated, it will fill it's memory pretty fast. Might be IR, in which case an incandescent light will do the trick.

Hey Aps

You know the house on the main drag, right next to the power lines? He let the bank foreclose on it rather than put up with the crazy lady anymore. She'd taken him to court once for looking at her from his back deck (stalking her).
