Due to a meeting tonight, I needed to arrive at work late today. As I was just about to get up and get dressed, Dymphna called to me and said that Mackenzie (our old lady cat) was at the bottom of the steps and was not responding. I got up, got dressed and then checked on the cat (<3 minutes from first notice). She was right. Mackenzie has been on a downward spiral for the last 6 months or so, so we knew it was just a matter of time. I gathered her in a towel and rubbed her head a couple times and told her to let go, it was OK, I would take care of her. She breathed 3 more times and was gone. She's now playing Monsters Under the Covers in heaven. I buried her in the backyard and then left for work.

RIP Mackenzie.

huntr and Family...so sorry for your loss, what memories you still have of Mackenzie. RIP sweet Girl.

That's so sad, it's so hard to lose our four legged children. Your kids must be devestated, well I know you all must be. I'm so sorry for your loss!

So peaceful. Couldn't be a better way to go, honestly. No tubes, no injections, no doctors or a weird environment.

A calm end to what sounds to have been a rewarding life for her and you.

Sorry for your loss, Huntr and Dymphna. It's so hard to lose a part of your family and pets are just that. :huggy:

I just realized my "youngest" critters will be 9 in a couple of days. Wow. :ohwell:

I know I'm a smartass most of the time in the forums, but this morning our 15 years of life with adopted Annie cat ended as well. No more hours in my lap in the recliner. Sorry, huntr.

Sadly our boy left us in September after 19 and a half wonderful years! I am just now able to even talk about it without tears flowing. He was the best boy a human could ask for and a beautiful peke faced persian kitty! I know I will see him again across the Rainbow Bridge. Seems there are a lot of long lived pets in our area and we are blessed in that way. My condolences to each of you who have lost a beloved pet.
