It's time for your educational minute (okay, 6 minutes) with your host, What's Her Face.

A lot of people, including me, think that Canada is some kind of pacifistic United States or something. Very much the same, but with small differences. And less anger.

Interesting. I wondered how that guy became PM, I thought Canadians voted for him. Turns out they'd never heard of him until he was made PM.

The US media presents Canadian government completely different, surprise surprise. So perhaps we'd be doing them a favor by making them the 51st state....

Same here, but I did watch this one because it was only 6 minutes.
Years ago I was following Steven Harper in Canada because he was Conservative. I looked up how coalition governments work and found out all that.

But I think Canada’s the only Parliament that works that way.

I didn't know how that worked either.

Do you think we'd have to kick the Brit's ass (again) over annexing Canada?

Oh, and I think Canada was annexed in Fallout 3, before the Alaska Campaign against the Chinese.

In Arizona, there are [were] a lot of Canadians. They come here in the fall, and leave in the spring. They, along with a lot of people from Missouri, Michigan, Illinois, and Wisconsin, own two homes. They avoid the winter there and the summer here.

This year... not so much. The Canadians left early... way early. Their homes are vacant. I would guess a lot of mobile homes in the parks around Apache Junction will go up for sale. Canadians are important to our economy.

Yesterday we had a community yard sale... and since there were not as many Canadians, the crowd was a lot smaller.

So... this whole "Canadians hate us" is growing and it's causing Arizona some financial issues already.

Not taking sides... just telling you what's going on out here.

I've never believed that they "like" us. Their obsequious little charade of politeness is just like a small dog's towards a bigger one - the "i like you, please don't eat me" kind of attitude. During 9/11, Chretien said we were "asking for it". You might meet nice Canadians but they don't miss a trick - polls have shown that in general, they believe themselves to be morally superior to this country, even while miserably accepting that we can swat them like a fly if we wanted to.

BUT - just like the furor ginned up over Musk and the violence not just against Tesla but against random Tesla OWNERS - I think their anger is promoted and fueled by government and media. I mean, c'mon, they're even doing protests in CANADA over Musk - who isn't directly affecting them at all. People in this country are being manipulated into thinking that Musk is evil - and that he's just trying to make more money (newsflash - when you already are richer than half the nations in the world - becoming richer stops being a priority). He has essentially no power whatsoever within the government.

There's no rational reason for attacking Tesla dealerships, Tesla cars and so on. It doesn't hurt him as much as it hurts employees, Tesla owners (many of whom are left-leaning and BOUGHT them as a concern over climate change) and especially - retirement funds invested in companies like Tesla. People are angry, because people in the media and government are TELLING THEM to be.

We are not being tyrannical to Canada - we are only asking them basically two things - trade fairly - and keep the criminals and drugs on your own side. We are not dumping to destroy their companies, and we are not adding tariffs to bankrupt them. Lopsided trade imbalances are in effect, draining money from us. We're just asking to be even.

Canadian snowbirds who are reacting this way are just cutting off their nose to spite their face - they are hurting themselves and only because they're foolish enough to follow the crowd.

I don't think Canada's financial issues are caused by Trump or Musk. Maybe they should get their own house in order before they worry about us.

See, and all our Canadians showed up this year. If anything would deter them I'd think it would be the exchange rate, but the ones at my place were all present and accounted for.

I don't get a sense Canadians hate us. The Canadian government hates us, and paid agitators "hate us", but I'm not getting a sense of hate from regular Canadians.

I'm watching some of the Canadian YT vids, mostly about Trumps 51st state stuff. The Canadians want nothing to do with it and are making that clear, but I don't sense any hate at all, just, "No, thank you."

It was an educational video for me, and apparently for a lot of Canadians who had no idea that their voice really means nothing.

I'm not convinced you can come to any conclusions based on social media posts. We already know the internet (and the news media) is seeded with paid propaganda, so it's hard to believe anything you see or read. According to Reddit all 50 states are wretched progbot hives of scum and villainy, EVERYONE hates Trump, EVERYONE wants to destroy Elon Musk, and EVERYONE is transgender or has some other mental disorder.

I do know that when I was in Montreal years ago Trump was quite popular there - "Oh, we like your President!" It was refreshing watching their news because it wasn't this ugly bullshit filled hatefest. And the Canadians here that I know personally are intrigued by what's going on in our government, not necessarily averse to being part of the USA.

🤷‍♀️

If they left early, then I would have to believe they had time sell before they left. Since they did not, it would seem they have every intention of coming back next year.

Additionally, if they only live in the US a couple months a year anyway, I can't see how they can possibly be of any meaningful value to our economy?
