I can make you a copy of Vista 32-bit Ultimate - non branded. If you have your key, I can somehow get a copy of the disk to you in a day or so.

Important lesson to be learned, if you have software packages you cannot live without check to see if they are 64-bit compatible or upgradeable... we have had this issue a few times at work.

I'm gonna answer his next question before he asks it. Vista 32-bit only supports a max of 3GB of RAM. That notebook has 4 to my knowledge. You'll lose a gig of RAM running the 32-bit, but it's a non-issue.

Do yourself a favor until Windows 7 is available and use a boot disk with XP or a version of Linux (if your software is compatible with it) on it. go to bootdisk.com or Google the term boot disk. It is a fairly simple thing to perform!

it is not possible to downgrade to XP.

No can do... tried that... you get a fatal error.

Also the drivers on this laptop are not associated with XP.

Well what turned out to be an excellent deal... has ended up screwing me.

I bought an HP Pavilion over the weekend to replace my old Toshiba laptop. I run a Live Sound and Lighting company and some of the programs I need are “windows” only and won’t run off a Mac OSX.

So I buy this new HP laptop and I installed the programs I needed for the show.

I am able to open up the program, but it won’t process any incoming or outgoing data to the USB ports.

WTF!!!

Come to find out I bought an HP Pavilion DV4-1220US with an AMD Turion X2 Dual-Core Mobile processor and it came with a Windows Vista 64-Bit Operating System. I spent about 2-3 hours on the phone with HP and Windows/Microsoft, and I haven’t had any luck. And come to find out a 64-Bit machine can not run programs that are designed for 32-Bit. HP won’t downgrade the Vista OS to 32-Bit because the driver files are only designed for 64-bit.

I can not return the laptop, since the box is opened and I installed programs on it and since there is nothing is wrong with it they won’t take it back or exchange it out.

So now I am sitting here with a $1200 paper weight, what do I do?

I'll give you $250 for it!

Is it anything like XP where the Key needed to match up with the Disk?

I was under the assumption that 64 Bit could handle 32-Bit software; sort of like a PS3 can play PS2 games. But this is not the case at all.

I am not sure about VISTA keys, but I believe 64/32 bit should be a non-issue. Where the licensing comes into play is the different flavors of VISTA.

I have Ultimate 32-bit - if your 64-bit is Ultimate you should be good to go with your key.

.

You can try to run the program in XP compatability mode... I do not have a 64-bit machine in front of me, but right click on the .exe and go to Properties.

Click on the 'Compatability' tab and look under 'Compatability Mode' - see what that buys you.

What software are you trying to run and is it listed as being Vista compatable? Also what hardware are you hooking up to the USB port? May need to go to the hardware manufactures site to see if they have 64-bit Vista drivers---or if the hardware needs drivers at all.

Software I am trying to run is:
American DJ MyDMX - Lighting Program
Yamaha Studio Manager - Mixer program
System Architech (Harmon) - Amps

Contacted all manufactures about the 64 Bit options and none of them are looking at building a 64bit version of their program.

If I were you I would jump on Clevalley's very kind offer.

I see what the problem is. The software itself is not the problem---It's that the DMX doesn't have a 64-bit driver.

Contact HP once again to get the install media for Vista 32-bit. Don't let them give you any crap about them not having 32-bit device drivers----They do have Vista 32-bit drivers.
If that fails, as recommended above, find someone that has a OEM version of the Vista install DVD. It will have both the 64-bit and 32-bit versions. Install the 32-bit version using the Product Key located on the bottom of your laptop.

My PS3 can't play PS2 games..

Neither does mine.:bawl:

PS3's with the 20 and 60 GB Hard drives are backwards compatable with PS2 as their are chipsets in them that allow you to play the games.

PS3's with the 80GB hard drive plays PS2 games via software emulation - my son has this one and has seen zero issues. Plays like his PS2 did.

PS3's with the 40GB does not play PS2 games, but plays PS1 games.

Can I Play PS2 Games on a PS3?
