I talked to HP today and they are telling me that it is not possible to "down grade" to 32-bit. But what you are saying, if I go to and buy the Vista upgrade kit, I can switch it to Vista 32-Bit.

no you cannot down grade ....

that is true ........

you must wipe and reinstall ....

No can do... tried that... you get a fatal error.

Also the drivers on this laptop are not associated with XP.
???

a fatal error ... so you booted off of the Install CD and it error ed out ?

I had a Dell E5500 Latitude I had to change a sata setting in the bios for XP to see the hard drive to downgrade to XP doing a reinstall

I tried to bounce it over to Ultimate 32bit and no luck with what I need to do with it. After all the frustration I went through, my fiancé is buying me a new laptop. Well after this one is sold she is going to help buy me a new one.

Since I said screw it... I put it up on eBay, so if you are interested in it... it only has a day left on the auction: HP DV4-1220US laptop; 250 gig hard drive, 4 gigs of ram - eBay (item 260361581566 end time Feb-19-09 17:57:55 PST)

Reserve has been met, will meet you locally in the area.
