Spectracide: Bag-A-Bug Disposable Traps

I got me one of these lil ol traps yesterday, put it up this AM-in 1 hr. there must be 50+ beetles in it! I was shocked how quickly them lil critters were attracted to it. I use milky spore on the ground but figger ifn I can git them in the air as well, I might be 1 up on em! Them critters were eatin up my Cone flowers and finishin off my roses! :war:

I hate killin anything but these critters are of no benefit in the scheme of life-dang, nuthin will eat them but Starlings so there ya go. No got Starlings to feed them to so, "bag em and be done wid em".

I sprayed my rose bushes, one may be past saving, but I sprayed all six anyways. One bush had so many on it, it sounded like it was raining when the carcasses were hitting the ground.

I think I saved 5 out of the six roses.. one I thought was dead is showing new growth..

Treated them with a systemic bug killer, but wasn't enough time to wait for it to get sucked up by the roots, so had to spry to save them.

Back to rose bushes-
I have 4 (JP's)-all the leaves were eaten by them dang beetles-I considered just cutting them back like I do in the fall-but after tendin to em, lil leaves are poppin out all over. Maybe w/aggressive beetle control I can live to see them bloom another day! :flowers:

I've actually heard that the traps attract more. They will smell the traps and come from other places to be near it.

I had a trap from my grandma the first year after we moved, collected 100's of the little bastages. Never bought the refills so I didn't put it back out and haven't really had that much of a problem last year or this. I bought a propane bug catcher thing that I assumed would only attract more on the same philosophy but that sucker is da bomb. Not only do I not have a mosquito problem but no gnats or other annoying bugs either.

You need to make sure that you put the traps well away from the plants or trees that are being eaten by the beetles.

Damn nip beetles killed both of my cherry trees last year. Since they don't have their favorite food (cherry tree leaves) they have moved on to my apple trees this year. Sprayed bug killer last thursday, about 2 hours before the sky let loose again. It did a decent job, not too many on the trees now. Going to re-spray tonight if the rain will stop, if not, then I will spray tomorrow. Plan is to replace the cherry trees this fall.

Old timey way of gittin rid of beetles-

Get yourself a small can of fruit cocktail-open it up-leave it sitting out for a couple of days till it ferments-place the can on a small block of wood, place it in a large yellow (its got to be yellow) bowl. Fill the bowl w/soapy water to just below the rim of the can and place the bowl in the area where plants are infested w/beetles.
It works-so I've been told-sort of the same idea of the saucer of beer for slugs!
For me......that "bag a bug" thing is the bomb! :yay:

Not sure about the beetles eating the azaleas, but the spider mites love them, along with the roses, and japanese maple. The little shiats are every where.

Last year I caught atleast 3 gallons worth of beetles with those things. Went thru 4 bags every 1-2 days for over a month. The bags averaged 1/2 full each time. Thank GOD this year is not a bumper crop year for them like last year was.

Personally, I feel really bad for those beatles. I'm sure it hurt their feelings being called "japs". That was so not nice. :nono:
