Now for my non-smarta$$ response:

Misawa would be a great situation. I know a few people who have been stationed there and they loved it. Being guests on an Air Force base is actually supposed to be great.

I enjoyed my time in Sasebo, but it was not a place I would want to live. The bad 10% of the sailors have ruined it for the rest.

Well thank you for that. Where is Sasebo?

My first wife was born in Yokosuka as a Navy brat and I got to stop in a couple of ports during my Navy time. Shore duty overseas is something you will always have fond memories of, the vast majority being really good ones. After Hubby retires you can always see the States so do not give up the opportunity to see some of the world we live in given the opportunity. I've seen an awful lot of the world and really don't have any bad memories of any of the countries I've seen. It is always great to get back home though.

Hubby is looking at orders. On his list of places to go are.

Honshu ( Misawa AFB) and Tinker In Ok. I know he really wants Japan though.

I've been reading all the stuff you have to do to get over there and OMG!!
I was in Misawa in 1985 for 6 months. It is an AFB and back then the AF didn't have much there. I went back in 1987 for a short det and the AF had moved back in and fixed the place up alot.

I liked Misawa. It is not a big town. (at least it wasn't back then, it might have grown) Small town Japan rocked :yay: Friendly people, no crime, lots of festivals, great food, places to visit. I would go back to Misawa in a heartbeat.

I have been to Okinawa too many times. Big city, lots of military, not so much fun still decent though.

Misawa was great. You would love it.

Word of warning: If you are in Japan for less than 5 hours, and you see some little nipper dude run out of a bank wearing a mask, jump in a car and speed away, don't flag down a cop and tell him you saw a bank robber. He will call other cops and tell them the story then they will all laugh at you. In Japan people with colds or the flu will wear a surgical mask to prevent spewing germs on each other, they are not bank robbers. :ohwell:

Anyone here ever been to Japan, Military of Civilian? :howdy:

TIA

I was stationed there in CAG-5 for 9 years from 95-04. It is a nice place. CNFJ has been cracking down overthere with the trouble makers which is a good thing. You should enjoy it. The first few months are the killer just trying to get used to it. Remember on thing though. If they do not understand you, you do not have to yell. It will not help them understand. Also just add a u or o to the end of an American word and they probably will understand. Such as instead of saying cup pronounce it cupu.

Back in 1985 I was in Okinawa for a while, loved it and spent about a week in Japan, wish it had been longer. Spent three years at Tinker and I was glad I was deployed 200+ days a year, it was flat, dry, hot, windy, tornados, t-storms, red clay, and about as country as country can be.

Thanks Gwa & Ken! :howdy:
Is your hubby still on his first enlistment? If so, does he plan to reenlist? And if he does plan to reenlist, has he submitted his PTS (Perform To Serve) stuff through his Command Career Counselor?

I've been to TDY to Iwakuni (and that's out in the sticks) and I really enjoyed it. There is more to do where you would be going :yay:
