Is your hubby still on his first enlistment? If so, does he plan to reenlist? And if he does plan to reenlist, has he submitted his PTS (Perform To Serve) stuff through his Command Career Counselor?

Yes first tour, yes to the re-enlistment

Yes on the PTS

How much time does he have left on his current enlistment?

The reason I ask is that if he has not been approved for reenlistment in his rate (or conversion to another rate) he will be kicked out of the Navy. You only get like 6 looks at your information. One per month.

He signed up for 5 years.

His 4 year mark is in Aug.

That's good he has submitted his stuff in a good time frame, hopefully he will be able to reenlist in his rate and not have to crossrate. His career counselor should be able to give him the skinny.

I don't mean to be a pest it's just that we've been hearing a lot of horro stories lately with folks' commands screwing them over with PTS.

You'll have a great time in Japan I'm sure ! Try the noodle pizza (I can't remember what the Japanese call it )

I lived in Atsugi for three years and I absolutely loved it! I can't say enough great things about the place, the people, the culture, etc. The only regret I have is not learning more of the language.

Even if your husband were to go on sea duty, I would highly recommend you not pass it by. When the fathers/husbands would go out to sea, the other families were very, very, supportive of each other. We treated each other as family and that was important when your father/husband is away for extended periods of time.

My mother taught English as she wasn't able to practice nursing while we were there. She made very good money and made some great friends while doing it.

I guarantee that you'll love it and won't want to come back...I sure didn't! If my husband were to get orders there, I'd pack up and leave this place in a heartbeat!

Oh, yeah...one more thing. If you do get orders there, make sure you go to the Fertility Festival. Very interesting!

What's up with that? Never heard of PTS. If he's a good performer, would the Navy seriously entertain the thought of kicking out one of it's young bucks that is looking to reup?

Oh and BTW, I'll toss my experience into the pot as well, although the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. I've been to Japan twice (Sasaebo and then Nagoya) and thoroughly enjoyed both trips. But then I love traveling and experiencing other cultures, and am especially interested in Asian culture, so take that for whatever it's worth.

I also did my USAF Tech School training at Altus AFB, OK, several miles from Tinker, and talk about country living. I had never seen a tumble weed in my life before I went there. The choice would be a no-brainer for me. Japan all the way!
