Jaspers Closing.............

I had lunch at Jaspers, talked with the manager and they are closing because the owner of the building ( not Jaspers) filed bankruptcy a while ago...and now the bank wants the building SOLD. Jaspers was leasing it from the bank, but the bank wants done with the case...and plan on selling the building as soon as they can get rid of it.

The owner of the building made a deal with jaspers in the beginning...he would build a building for them, they do the intersnals and run Jaspers.
Building owner expected bigger returns...even though Jasper is doing well, it was not enough.

Owner could not keep up with his debt, both personal and the building and the bank came calling.

It is not 100% dead..there is still some hope...but not a lot.

Jaspers has 110 employees that will be out of work in 3 weeks....

There is a new BBQ place opening up in St. Marys and they have offerd to hire from Jaspers. That training begins Nov. 4th.

Jaspers is opening a new place in Frederick, MD.

Another place beginning to struggle from high building costs and fees is Outback.

I had a great lunch as usual and will miss Jaspers when they close.

Quick! Somebody call Obama!

There are quite a few little restaurants in north beach, anything worth checking out?

I liked Vincenzo's, didn't realize there was a new restaurant there. I'll have to check it out. What's good there?

Neptunes is good right on the main drag, bay ave. Rod n Reel is a good candidate for a complete haul over, i forget the name of the show that does that. If it weren't for the slots and the marina they'd probably close. food SUCKS.

Food has sucked at R&R for eons.

the demographics of the people that go there for the "all night slots" is very telling of who they cater to.

Anybody who asks me about R&R cuz they've heard so much about it, I tell them if you like eating sh*t from a toilet and paying too much for it, by all means R&R is the place for you.

but they have fantastic views of the water, but so does blue plains water sewage treatment plant.

Thanks, I've seen it. I'll have to check it out sometime. I take my son to the boardwalk pretty often but never eat out there.

Funny, the one place around there we have eaten is Rod n Reel. Nice view that reminds me of being back home (Long Island). We've only eaten there once for dinner and we were all very disappointed. We used to go every so often for brunch on Sundays but it's gone way downhill. The show you're probably talking about is Kitchen Nightmares with Gordon Ramsey. Let's recommend them for the show and all the forumites can show up there! :killingme

The Real Story About Jaspers

So the Jaspers in Prince Frederick says they are closing the end of October . Wonder if something more is going on, as they are the 3rd one to close . the only one that will be left is Largo............ummm.

Sad to see them go!

I know the owner personally and the story goes,...READY for this>>>this friend put his life savings and his house on the line to bring a little class to southern maryland. This is an example of corporate greed in the financial place. He lost it all, incuding his house he lived with his family in, do to the failing economy and the fact that the GREEDY bank would NOT work out any terms to keep it alive. They took his house and all his savings and his future. His family was forced to the streets. He was a dreamer and a family man. He put everything he had into it. A one man with a dream to create jobs and build something that special in our community is surely gonna be missed. Finally the bank hired all his management team and his empolyees and kept it open for us. NO not really...for them...the bank wanted to have it open to show new restuarantors that it was a success...The management team tried desperatly to work out a new purchase deal. ALL has failed due to the GREEDINESS of the Bank. This is a locally owned bank again owned by a crook. We all know who it is....It is sad we still support these kind of powerful people. Jaspers was great. NOW the bank will experience what it takes to sell an empty box...this is what they are all doing.

Whats Really Happening W Jaspers

What common sense businessman (woman) would rather deal with the hassles of an empty building in this economy...rather than lower a lease & keep the cash flow going for another year or two.

Jaspers is a little pricy ( I've been 3-4 times) but the food is always delicious & service exemplary. C'mon owner...show some smartz....extend the lease, keep dozens employed, and keep a nice restaurant open.

I have to wonder if there is more to the story...:coffee:

Would you STFU?

Really.

Say it once. That's usually more than enough.

:yeahthat:

But how is it that the bank is greedy because it loans money out to someone and when they're not paying it back under the terms of agreement they are forced to give up the collateral they put down to back the loan? Am I missing something? It's unfortunate, to be sure, that the economy took a dive, but that is a risk you take when you go into business. Right?
