Bustem' Down - compassion is obviously not an acquaintance of yours.
And you're wrong.
I help out at the SPCA
I donate every year to the SPCA.
One of my dogs is from the pound.
They are treated better than most people treat thier children.

I am just not interested in people's private lives.

The neighbor that doesn't provide shelter, food or water - is that private?

The person that beats their dog - is that private?

What irresponsible breeding does is not "private", it's a community problem.

Instead of the SPCA where those animals are safe, go to the shelter and then tell me you don't feel anything.

I want to take them all home, but I can't afford that. You have to choose your battles and you just need to suck it up that I don't want to fight one with you. If you want to fight it be my guest, just don't expect everyone to follow you like your some kind of Joan of Arc.

Obviously you have the money to do that, too many people don't and are faced with the heartache of either having their loved pet PTS or surrendering it to the pound.

BUT this attitude "None of my concern. " is the EXACT reason there are shelters - too many people have that attitude - Not my problem, it doesn't affect me...

Que Sera Sera right?

That's a crappy attitude... (jerk)

calling someone a jerk simply because they'r enot as "compassionate" about a subject as you are is not a way to get people to follow your cause.

Holier than thou...that's funny. Animal rescue is pretty much thankless...well, unless animals can talk and you just have to be satisfied knowing you are doing something that matters.

pretty much anything dealing with any type of volunteering is thankless.

I will apologize for calling them a "jerk", it's just a jerky attitude.

And you're right, the thanks I get from the animals far exceeds anything a person could ever give me.

"holier than thou", come see me some night when I'm drinking... you'd never say that..

call me a b!tch, I've been called worse...

Yeah, I got the same karma. The only thing worse than getting unsigned red karma, is getting BORING unsigned red karma.

If you're going to take the time to leave someone red karma, at least make it original. :yay:

02-08-2007 10:18 AM shut up, everyone gets to make their own choices.
Sure, everyone can make their own choices and animal overpopulation isn't everyone's problem. The point is, if you are truly involved in rescue, you are not breeding your pets for a dollar, you are spaying,/neutering your animals, and educating others to the problem of overpopulation. If you are a reputable breeder who follows the code of ethics, there's nothing wrong w/ that...If enough people did care, the outcome for unwanted animals would be much better. If anyone did volunteer at the shelter for a month, they would see firsthand the number of excellent dogs and cats being euthanized to make room for the other dogs/cats coming in...That is all.

I see you...
not trying to stir things up farther, but in order to become a reputible breeder, don't you have to start as a no name first also? I understand that Puppymills are horrible, but for those who start out breeding as no ones, you can't just say they are trash too, then say for others it is okay.

Its not about being a no name or a known name. Its about researching your animals genetics and heredity health issues, as well as ensuring the buyer knows what the characteristics of the breed are and that it fits in their family lifestyle, often a clause stating if the animal has to be rehomed, the breeder is called first to take the animal back...etc...etc...

A "name" isn't important. Small breeders can be reputable. When you are just starting out, you start with your foundation dogs...HEALTHY, good representation of the breed and work from there to BETTER the breed. You need to do your homework BEFORE deciding to breed.

Take a look at this. It's for Boxers but you get a general idea of what a reputable breeder should be. For those of you that have purchased from a breeder..ask yourself the questions at the end of that page.

Well put and good site for the differences between BYB's and reputable breeders!
