Jesus H Christ

hmmmmmm
A theory I have is that when you just say Jesus Christ it's more offensive than saying Jesus H. Christ.... when you have something separating the Jesus from the Christ it's almost disassociation as to not offend

So I can continue saying Jesus F. Christ without offending people? :yahoo:

Howard..

our father who art in heaven, Howard be thy name.

Thanks. Thanks a lot.

The next time I'm at somebody's funeral, when they get to this part, and I burst out laughing, I'm gonna say that it was all your fault.

This is what I was thinking. I'll be sitting in church or at some serious kind of ceremony and have to stifle myself! :buttkick: And then I'll get my butt kicked!

I know how it will happen. Even though everyone will say "hallowed", I will imagine they actually said "Howard". My face won't hide that. I'll attempt a serious look...eyebrows up, eyes wide open, stern facial muscles, lips tight. But as I verbalize with them, my voice will start to waiver, and then I'll start to giggle. By the time they get to "trespass," I'll be belly laughing. Damn.

What does the H stand for? I never got that.

Having gone to a Catholic grammar school; with church being a weekly requirement, things got rather boring...I remember making my own prayers-part of this one being "our father who farts in heaven, Harold be thy name....give us our daily fred"... etc (fred was a nickname my older brother called me- it meant fart)

Haven't thought about it in many many years- thanks, everyone for the flashback to my younger and more innocent days!

Many possible explanations for it Vrai but whatever the case, it's not a name or phrase that you want to use disrespectfully. I've never heard JHC used respectfully when it was used.
It may have come from the Greek spelling of Jesus which was shortened to "iota-eta-sigma" or IHC in English. The "H" could have come from that.
The Bible gives NO middle name for Jesus and it never refers to Him as JHC, so no person should either.

This thread reminded me of something. I've heard of spanish people named Jesus. Now I've come across a kid named Messiah. He's in my son's class. That's a first.
