Juicing

No, not steroids, juice from fruits and veggies.

I watched "Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead" last night so now I'm on a new food bandwagon. It's always cool to watch horribly obese and physically ill people transform their lives and get their health back. When someone goes from 400+ lbs and a host of medical problems to running a half marathon, it is amazing and inspiring.

I eat a lot of veggies anyway, not so much fruit because....I don't know, just because. But I want to start drinking my nutrients and see what happens. Probably won't do a total fast/reboot, more like one protein meal a day and the rest juice. I can give up pretty much any food except for eggs, roast chicken, and coffee, and there's no sense in torturing myself.

I'm going out to buy my juicer and fixin's today! :yahoo:

So has anyone done this? If so, what was/is your experience?

We're getting a nutribullet today so, I'll let you know how we do. I'm curious to find how spinach and almonds and honey and flaxseed oil go with beer...

I did it for 2 years. I would juice everything on Sunday and then freeze it in these Tupperware cups I bought to drink each day. I did it like that because it was a pain in the butt to clean that thing every time. I wanted to give it a sincere try to see if it made any difference in how I felt so I even logged each day so I could look back and see if it was working, after 2 years the consensus was that it didn't make any difference "for me”, so I stopped doing it.

Without me watching the show, why don't you just chew the food instead of making it into mush? Wouldn't you feel fuller if you chewed that same amount of food that you juiced? Benefits?

Ease of use.

Throw in some spinach, almonds, honey, carrots, flax seed oil and beer and you're drinking a meal.

I thought of you when I was looking at recipes last night - some of these concoctions SCREAM for a shot of vodka.

The supposed idea is to get max nutrients, which means a #### ton of fruits and veggies - more than you can possibly eat without exploding. But you can drink them because all the pulp and filling stuff gets taken out. But I think it's more of a mind thing: if you're chewing this (salad), you might as well be chewing that (pizza). This gets you in the habit of lightening up, not eating, and cleans you out (which I'm not looking forward to). Or something like that.

I've wanted a juicer for awhile, though, so even if I decide that kale and carrot smoothies suck ass I can still make fresh grapefruit crushes.

Juicing is a very interesting subject, it's great if you want to go on a multi day cleanse such as a weekend or three day type ordeal but not the 30 day as Joe does mainly because everyone's body is different, what isn't mentioned is a lot of people who were motivated to do this actually had to be hospitalized because after a certain period of not having any solid food go through the body their intestines were actually shutting down and stopped working because there was no food to digest. Another issue with juicing is the juicer strips all the good fibers from the fruits and vegetables, you are much better off blending and doing more of a smoothie. Make sure that your produce is organic and if you are female watch your intake of raw Kale/spinach. Kale and spinach are high in Oxalic Acid and studies have shown that when women eat large amounts of raw kale or spinach the oxalic acid causes fertilization issues/endimitriosis/ and kidney stones. (If you google Dave Asprey Oxalic Acid) you should find what I'm rambling about.
Juicing is great way to detox and clear the body of unwanted toxins but it's only a simple fix, as soon as you are
finished you may want to still eat "clean" for the benefits to stay.
:) was that too much

Haha I did the FSND cleanse when I first saw the movie and I lasted for a couple weeks but my body did not take to it, I cannot digest even liquified produce and so it actually made me quite sick. :)
Good Luck !

Keep the forums updated on how juicing goes for you. You already did the gummy bear cleanse so this should be easier. I had thought about trying it, after seeing my sister make some interesting blends but I'll chew for now

Thanks for the information! I can't picture myself going 30 days just drinking juice. What I know for a fact is that I'm not going to sit there on Friday night and watch people eat while I'm drinking spinach and apple juice. If I had a ton of weight to lose or medical issues, I'd be more motivated. But right now it's just about dropping a couple pounds and simplifying my clean eating thing I (mostly) do now.

The mean green is yummy! I didn't do the full amount of ginger because it's too overpowering and I love ginger but the cucumber and celery apple base makes it so good.

I bought a juicer last summer for the sole purpose of making it easier to grind up a bunch of tomatoes to make spaghetti sauce. It came with a book of juice recipes. I figured, what the heck, they looked good, I'll try it. It was awful. I simply cannot understand how you can take delicious ingredients of various fruit and mash it through a juicer and it comes out tasting awful. So my exploration into juicing lasted all of a day. :ohwell:

But what about Bloody Mary mix? That tastes delicious!

(So many of these juice recipes would make lovely cocktails.)

I use V-8. Less work and better tasting, probably because it is filled with things that are likely bad for you.

For fruity drinks the best stuff in the world are the "Naked" juices that you can get everywhere now.

Juicing really is a huge pain in the ass.

See, and I'm retarded because I never drink juice. Not even orange juice. But for some reason I think I will drink the hell out of fresh juice that I have to put effort into.
