Juicing

I'm not a fan of juicing as a regular thing, however, having a pre/post workout meal is not bad. Clean eating is good and the best fuel you can provide your body. Fruits contain a lot of sugars and carbs. You may think you are doing your body good but you could be adding extra weight.

Yum! I made a watermelon, lime, and basil drink and it was DEEElicious!

My juicer is a Breville Juice Fountain Plus. Doesn't make a big mess at all, easy clean-up. The screen thingie is the worst of it, and even that's no biggie.

I'm happy.

I bought one a couple yrs ago. You spend a fortune in veggies to get a gallon of juice. PITA to clean the thing too. It's sitting on top of my cabinets...

I - nerd alert! - joined a juicing forum. Most of the other members have/had 100 lbs or more to lose. The most common complaint (besides that they're starving) is that making the juice is time consuming and cleanup is a pain. I am not finding that to be the case - prepping the veggies, juicing them, and cleaning the machine after is no biggie at all. Then it dawned on me that I'm used to making my own food and washing dishes afterward, whereas most of them have been eating fast food or packaged food. Not very many of them actually cook, unless you count boxes of Kraft mac & cheese. Which explains why they have 100+ lbs to lose.

It took no more time or effort to make my juice this morning than it does to fry some eggs and sausage or make a bowl of oatmeal with fruit and nuts. Pretty much the same number of items to wash, too. And honestly, it's fun to blast produce apart and turn it into rainbow mush. :jet: When I make my next batch I'll take a picture of the pulp collection - it's like some hippie's tie-dyed nightmare.

I just learned that my juicer and my Soda Stream are BFFs. And that cucumber, spinach, and pineapple soda tastes much better than it sounds. Seriously.

Do not make faces and go yack until you've tried it.

I picture a bubbling cauldron and you going "Heart of palm......juice of beet, drink this cup and you will have smelly feet!! Buahahahahah!

Bulb of fennel, juice of orange...

Hmm.....

Let me start that over...

Bulb of fennel, juice of berry, drink this potion to make you....

Scary? Hairy? A fairy?

It's more fun making juice than it is making poems.

This makes a lot of sense! It is surprising to me how many people do not cook real food any days of the week. They live off fast food and packaged foods.

I am a rah rah zealot when I get into something, plus I love playing with my food, so I'm coming up with veggie soda recipes, using a cocktail shaker with ice to make a lovely veggie virgin martini (cucumber, watermelon, a bit of pineapple, and jalapeno - holy hell!), stuff like that. Tomato based veggie juices are quite gross cold but warmed up and drank like broth they are delicious. Asparagus juice (who knew?) is very good mixed with apple and lime. I have no sweet tooth to speak of and a little fruit goes a long way in a drink.

I'm taking in about 1500 calories a day, and I've been drinking 4 juice concoctions a day plus a couple of eggs or some chicken at lunch-ish. The pants that were tight on me a few days ago fit again, so I'm at least losing water. I'm peeing a lot. Like, a lot a lot. More than before, which I did not think was possible. The only other side effect is that I smell like green stuff. Like I've been rolling in grass or something. The lady at the bank asked what cologne I was wearing, said I smelled like a meadow, and a friend said I smell like the farmers market. It's not unpleasant, just unusual.

So I'm enjoying my juicer and having fun making up blends. :yay:

Has the "cleanse" part kicked yet? Can you venture more than 50 yards from the house?

This sounds like a great place to talk about the 'cleanse' i got just before my colonoscopy. I'm not seeing any difference in procedures here.....

Juicing is a very interesting subject, it's great if you want to go on a multi day cleanse such as a weekend or three day type ordeal but not the 30 day as Joe does mainly because everyone's body is different, what isn't mentioned is a lot of people who were motivated to do this actually had to be hospitalized because after a certain period of not having any solid food go through the body their intestines were actually shutting down and stopped working because there was no food to digest. Another issue with juicing is the juicer strips all the good fibers from the fruits and vegetables, you are much better off blending and doing more of a smoothie. Make sure that your produce is organic and if you are female watch your intake of raw Kale/spinach. Kale and spinach are high in Oxalic Acid and studies have shown that when women eat large amounts of raw kale or spinach the oxalic acid causes fertilization issues/endimitriosis/ and kidney stones. (If you google Dave Asprey Oxalic Acid) you should find what I'm rambling about.
Juicing is great way to detox and clear the body of unwanted toxins but it's only a simple fix, as soon as you are
finished you may want to still eat "clean" for the benefits to stay.
:) was that too much

Haha I did the FSND cleanse when I first saw the movie and I lasted for a couple weeks but my body did not take to it, I cannot digest even liquified produce and so it actually made me quite sick. :)
Good Luck !

^ Yeah, that....I had thought about getting a juicer but decided against it. I read that you lose some nutrients and fiber and that it's easy to wind up adding more sugars to your diet (albeit from fruit rather than chocolate). I had a cancerous colon polyp (luckily it was just the polyp and nothing more) and thought it might be a way to get the added veggies I needed...but it turns out for colon health it's the fiber that's more important. Anyhow, I can't find the article that changed my mind, but I thought this one was good for pros/cons.. http://www.fitday.com/fitness-articles/nutrition/the-risks-and-benefits-of-juicing.html
