it's easy to wind up adding more sugars to your diet

^This^ I started plugging my meals into MyFitnessPal so I can see what I'm getting in the course of the day and I about #### when I saw the sugar number. No wonder people feel like crap the first three days of a juice cleanse - it's your body screaming for mercy.

My new favorite juice is celery soda, which is celery juice with stevia, ginger and lime, topped off with seltzer. Go ahead: "Celery???" But it's really good, and so is cucumber.

I make juice 2 or 3 times a day, then eat a protein meal mid-afternoon and maybe a protein snack later. Yesterday I had scrambled eggs with sauteed kale and it was incredible. Calorie count has been around 1200 for the last few days and I'm not going hungry.

I need your diet, minus the stevia. Blech. Almost any processed sweetener gives me problems. I'd just substitute real sugar or agave.

I have been juicing for 10 years! I actually started as a way to get rid of my acid reflux which it solved, but I had so much more energy and felt so good that I will continue the rest of my life. It is a pain sometimes considering prepping the veggies and cleaning the juicer but it more than pays in the benefit it does for your health. I thought the video on "Fat, sick and nearly dead" was a great motivator for anyone that was obese or just wanted a better quality of life. The food chain has been contaminated by corporations more intent on profit than supplying products that actually help you stay healthy. We all need to eat like our life depends on it, because it does!

I'm okay with corporations not wanting to take responsibility for my health. In this day and age there's no excuse for eating poorly except that you want to. Which is fine, but don't blame some corporation for your poor choices. (That you is not you, Sparky, personally - just a general observation.)

I was into juicing back in the nineties when those things first came out. After a couple years, I give it all a shrug. I also was into steaming whole grains on the advice of a nutritionist. I tried to convince myself the stuff tasted ok.

I hear conflicting information on it, but the one I tend to believe is - just eat the vegetables themselves. The pulp and fiber are good for you and your body has evolved to need them and make use of them. Squeezing out the nutrients also densely compacts the calories while leaving out the bulk that minimizes appetite.

My doctor always used to say, don't drink apple or orange juice - eat apples and oranges.

I agree with you that every person needs to take responsibility for their health. Most people don't look at the ingredient list on the foods they buy, and probably think the government won't let anything bad go into the food. We're the only country in the world that doesn't label foods with gmo in it. Why, because given the choice the people would not buy the products. To eat healthy today, first you have to be able to afford buying certified organic. Second you have to have the knowledge on how to eat for health not just for flavor. Third you must have the time to do it. In today's world, everyone is rushed for time, hence fast food and processed food. The medical profession and big pharmaceuticals cash in on the explosion of a population hell bent on eating unhealthy and aided by the food industry.

^ Yeah, that. Most people who say they feel better now that they're juicing, it's because they've replaced junk with more fruits and vegetables, albeit pulverized. They'd feel just as good, and probably consume less sugars if they just ate the veggies and fruits.

Apples and oranges always go bad in my house because I don't like them. I mean I like them, I just don't like to eat them. If I have a piece of fruit for breakfast my stomach will be upset and I'll be hungry all day. For some reason, juicing that exact same piece of fruit doesn't have the same effect.

I did a full scale juice reboot for 3 days and what it really did for me is kicked me out of my bad eating habits. It absolutely killed my appetite (if you can imagine spinach juice doing that :jet:) so now that I'm eating real food my portions are smaller and I load up on veggies rather than meat and starches. I have a new appreciation for kale and zucchini, which I had never purchased and prepared at home before. I plug everything I eat into MyFitnessPal to keep track of my calories, carbs, fiber, and sugar and now it is a snap to stay at 1200 calories a day and under 60g of carbs. In fact a couple of days I had a handful of almonds before bed just to jack up my totals.

I went to a party last weekend and my contribution to the snack bar was warm red pepper hummus with veggie sticks and spicy kale chips. After an initial "ew" and some skepticism, they got snarfed down and a number of people asked for the recipes. Kale chips are weirdly addictive and warm hummus is surprisingly decadent. A few weeks ago it wouldn't have occurred to me to make something like that.

So 7 lbs gone and my jeans are a little loose instead of being too tight. I'm very happy with my juicer!

A zucchini tip:

"They" say that julienned zukes are a good substitute for spaghetti. This is bull####. It's not even remotely close to the same flavor or texture. Instead of thinking of things as substitutes, like tofurkey and other abominations, let them stand on their own and enjoy them for what they are. Zucchini or spaghetti squash with cheese and/or marinara is delicious, as long as you don't have pasta on the brain when you eat it.

shiritaki noodles are a great sub, though. A whole bag is about 10 cals and pretty much zero carbs. I bought a bunch at giant when they were on sale and I actually like them. You have to rinse forever to get rid of the dirty back alley hooker smell..but they make an awesome stir fry/lo mein and noodle substitute.

Yes, I remember that being a deterrent...

I didn't like them, thought they had an odd texture. But I do like whole wheat pasta so that's what I have on the rare occasion I'm jonesing for carbs.

Question; I got my Nurtibullet and it is one kewl toy. I've watched the vids on the hows and whys and have this question left;

If we just eat the ingredients vs. pulverizing them, does our body not digest and absorb as well eating, whole, raw, as drinking the stuff pulverized?

I mean, I get that I wouldn't do it anyway, eat all that stuff raw but, just so I know, assuming I did eat them raw, is pulverized still better, much better, for absorption?

One of the reasons for juicing is you are able to take in a lot more nutrients in liquid form than you could if you ate all the fruit or vegetables whole.

The nutrients in the juice go right into the bloodstream as there is no fiber to digest. We still need a balanced diet with lots of fiber for complete health.

OK, so, pulverizing spinach and drinking IS better for you than eating it raw?

The answer is yes if you want to supervise the nutrients. You can get fiber from many food sources. If you eat the spinach, kale, or other leafy greens

whole, you wouldn't ever consume enough to equal the nutrients you juice. I make smoothies and add (whole) spinach. You can blend your veggies,

instead of juicing if you want the fiber. Both ways will greatly improve one's health.

Yum! I made a watermelon, lime, and basil drink and it was DEEElicious!

My juicer is a Breville Juice Fountain Plus. Doesn't make a big mess at all, easy clean-up. The screen thingie is the worst of it, and even that's no biggie.

I'm happy.

Laminate counter tops? And is that a cigarette to the right of the juice glass in the first photo?

So has anyone done this? If so, what was/is your experience?

I did for around 5 years. Never felt better. It is a lot of work though. Then life gets in the way and you go back to your old routine. I'm getting ready to dust my juicer off.

Best advice is to just replace 1 meal with 1 vegetable juice for 30 days. Then evaluate the results.

Like any lifestyle change, what works for 1 won't necessarily work for someone else. Best to give it a try if you can. Borrow a juice for a week or so. Experiment with different combinations of flavors.

Here's a link with some good info: http://summertomato.com/6-things-to...cer-other-tips-for-fruit-vegetable-juicing-2/

There is plenty of juicing info on the internet.
