Sooo... I just found out I'm pregnant!!! My SO and I are extremely excited and extremely unprepared!! I was wondering if anyone could give me some information about getting financial assistant for housing and/or food. We both have full time jobs but income is not that great and we just found out days before getting my BFP that we need to move out of our current living situation!!! Any information would be great. I seriouly think we will be over qualified for any help but its worth a shot! Pretty sickening that we both work our butts off (50+ hours a week each!), but still can't afford anything and so many others are not working but getting free money and and living sweet, but we'll get nothing, arrgg I digress! I'm a little overwhelmed and I don't even know where to begin!! Thanks!

I am not sure how kind people are going to be.

Here is a link that was in another post. It helps you see what you qualify for.

but most people's sug will be to downsize bills, continue to work, and pay for things your self. It may be uncomfortable or tough, but then you will be secure in the knowledge that you took care of your child on your own.

congrats on the little one. I hope you and SO are able to find better employment or a better living situation.

Congratulations, children are a blessing.

But.....

Your SO...??? So at this point i'm assuming that you are unmaried and having unprotected sex. Now you have another mouth to feed and you were already having a hard time making ends meet....Not very responsible.

Now you are looking for a handout and I'm(a taxpayer) the one footing the bill.

Excuse me if i'm less than thrilled.

wow!!! That was harsh!!! Many of us are having a hard time, the ecomony, with jobs being very hard to find, and prices going up and up, it is really unfair to attack anyone for struggling right now, with or without children..
I hope that things work out for this young couple...asking for help is a responsible thing to do..I pray they recieve support...try the CareNet Center...they can guide and help you..we all worry if we can support our children and give them the best..it is normal....esp with the first...

Do you have any friends or family that may be able to help you get baby gear? Also, there are a lot moms that donate gear to thieft shops and yard sales. As far as getting assistance, contact your local Dept. of Social Services. They will be able to help you figure out what, if anything, you qualify for. Are you a member of a church...maybe you can seek help there. There are a lot of other families that are in your same situation and it is frustrasting...but with God all things are possible. I wish you well.

I was on the pill when I got pregnant with my son. Just an FYI.

Riley, if you need some help, get it - that's what it's there for. But please be a responsible citizen and only use it for as long as you need, and be a good mother to your baby.

Congrats!

Make an appointment with social services and see what you qualify for. Start saving now. Each paycheck buy a package of diapers, wipes, bottles, an outfit... anything to help support the baby when he/she arrives.

Good luck and congrats!

nothing unreal exists
I agree with him.

Staging and planning the arrival of a baby doesn't really cost *that* much. If you can't afford the basics of a baby's arrival, then perhaps you shouldn't be having a baby.

Then my sister and I, and more than half of the World's population would have never existed.

I hope it all works out as well, As I said children are a blessing. I have few and don't regret it one bit.

But if you are already struggling in life you should make sure you dont do things to make it worse, Married or not. So now there is another mouth to feed and a not so good situation gets worse.

I am so very blessed

Listen, she's here asking for assistance for housing assistance and food.....basic necessities. How is having a baby going to IMPROVE her situation?

If you can't afford to care for yourself for THE BASICS then you need to re-think having children.
