Give the boy an ipod Touch for Xmas. Make it clear to him not to take it to school. He agrees.

So what does he do? Takes it to school. Leaves his locker unlocked. The thing gets stolen. WTF!!!!

School called wanted serial number and description but that thing is most likely gone.

Sounds like your son learned a very expensive lesson. :ohwell:

The lady at the school said he was VERY concerned. I think he knows daddy is gonna have issues with this.

I don't care about the iPod. It's the fact that he told me he wouldn't take it to school I have the issue with. Not good.

How old is your son? I'm thinking middle school age? You've got a lot to look forward to with kids, I can tell ya. Not that mine are trouble makers or anything, but one of them has kept me on my toes.

DO NOT replace it. Make him earn the money to replace it. That will instill the monetary value and responsibility of having and taking care of nice things.

I have two boys, This one just turned 15.

I took care of teen aged foster children for about 8 years. Not too much I have not come accross yet. This one just gets to me as I have always put allot of trust and faith into this boy. I bought him & his younger brother 1 each. I figured the youngest would be the one to goof up first.

No way! Seriously? I've never heard of some kid doing something they weren't supposed to! :shocking:

Kids learn the hard way, they just do. I feel sorrier for you that you shelled out all that money for the iPod only to have it now belong to some thief kid.

I am more aggrivated about the lie than anything. I'll be making him think about this for a while.

:yeahthat:

A few weeks back my son wanted to take his new baseball bat glove and ball to school to play w/ at recess... I said nope it is brand new leave it here you can play w/ it when you get home from school... well guess who decided to take it to school anyway.... well the VP called me from work and said that they had to take it from him because it was against school rules (something along those lines) but that I could come pick it up after school... guess where it still sits!

I don't blame you. I won't be replacing it. I did think that over though. But he is going to have to put this one in the lessons learned file.

Well, he didn't really lie - he just broke his promise.

Neither here nor there, I'm sure he's heartbroken and it sucks that you have to hang in there and not make it better for him. :ohwell:

He told me he would not take it to school. That's a lie from my perspective.

But. I won't be making it easy on him. I may replace it but he is going to have to come up with a bit of money and accomplish a respectable list of chores.

He deserves a foot up his butt. But that will be too short lived.

Infortunately I am divorced and the boys live with the EX over there. She leaves for work before he does to school so nobody is there to oversee this sort of thing at all.

He is a good kid. Just hope he takes this to heart and learns something from it.

As a teacher, I've seen a lot of this and honestly, each and every time I think "What idiot parent would get their child something so expensive?" Not calling you an idiot or anything.... because I've never really heard the parent's side till now. Sucks.... but he'll definitely learn.
