I think Cell Phones and Ipods should be against school rules. That was the main reason I didn't want my boy taking his to school.

Is it against school rules???

Doesn't really matter if they sneak them out and take them anyway.

Not since I was in school, that I recall.
I see no issue allowing them to have it so they can listen to music on the bus ride if they want  Just gotta be responsible with it.

I think they can have them but they cant use them.. According to B

:lmao: I guess they can use them to & from or something.

I wasn't concerned about him taking the thing to school and having it stolen. Things get stolen, Just the way it is. Yes he made a poor choice in taking it to school. But it could have just as easily have been stolen elsewhere. My main concern was getting a call from a Teacher or admin saying it was confiscated because he was using it when he wasn't supposed to be.

If the thing was stolen then I would treat this one way. But if he was using it in class then a whole new way of handling it comes into play.

I have to go on the assumption that he is telling the true story and that it was stolen out of his locker at this point. But I have to admit from the way the EX is making this sound that some "other" story may soon come out.

I'm just curious how he said his locker wasn't locked. With most lockers, if they're closed, they're locked. I guess maybe if you didn't turn the dial when you closed it it could still be opened.

We always used a balled up piece of paper to "jam" the locker for quick entry and exit.

No kid deserves an Ipod touch... IMO... sorry. I don't even have a regular ipod and I'm a music teacher. I do tend to generalize though because usually the kids I see with expensive phones and electronics are the ones who get in trouble everyday and use them in class... thus advertising to everyone their belongings.

This is what I hear when I read this post.....

:lmao:

Sounds like my sister kids get in trouble and she calls to ask what she should do... give her my advice and next thing you know she does the complete opposite! Why waste my time if you have no intentions of taking my advice

Daughter and Son both go to PHS.

Daughter takes her IPOD to school almost everyday, and i KNOW she takes her cell phone everyday.

She's not supposed to have the phone turned on during school hours on school property, but every now and then I'll get a text from her, and it takes me awhile to realize.. "HEY, you're in school!!!" This usually occurs after we've been texting back and forth for a 1/2 hour or so.

The day she doesn't make honor roll will be the day I'll take issue with it.

My kids are all in elementary school. They can carry cell phones. Their is special paperwork you fill out in the beginning of the year for it and I believe they must be turned off during school hours. My kids don't have cell phones.

All my kids but bubba have cell phones, and the youngest two have Chaperone turned on. As long as their phone is turned on I know (or can know if I need to) exactly where they are.

Imagine getting a call from school to find out your kid isn't there, and you put them on the bus this morning.. two key presses later I know EXACTLY where they are. Have never had to use it, but it's nice knowing it's there.

Rules are rules and just because you think a rule is stupid doesn't mean you can break it.

Who said it was a stupid rule? Besides, probably 82.3% of the people that chat on this forum probably break one or two rules in the process.. Other than age, what's the difference?

Personally I think it's teaching life rules. Critical thinking skills, problem solving skills. She knows the risks, and the punishment if she gets caught, and if she gets caught she'll have to deal with it. Lesson learned.

And I know damn well if I had a cell phone when I was her age I'd have been doing the same thing.. just not WITH or to one of my parents (that's the coolest part).
