I would love to get Safari Books Online ..... but damn $$$4

I got it through work. The government customer has a enterprise agreement with them. When I am VPN'd in, I use my phone as a hot spot and connect my Ipad to that. When VPN'd in I have zero internet at all. When I need to look something up related to the system I am working on it is so much easier doing that, than writing error code down, getting out of VPN, looking up the code.

What are you talking about? There is no backspace key on a Gen1 iPad keyboard.

Well just to put this out there if you are interested in selling your Ipad 1, if it was Verizon service I would buy in it a minute. I currently have 5 phones on my wireless plan and will be canceling one next month yet that still leaves me with 4 lines and I only will have three being used. In order to avoid a 315.00 early termination fee, Verizon suggested that I get a Verizon capable tablet. This would lover my bill by another 40.00 a month and will share my current data pack.

P.S. I also have an Ipad 1 16g wifi only as a replacement for your music?

I think vrai must be referring to a back arrow key (i.e. one that moves the cursor to the left without deleting the character immediately to the left), she's just calling it a backspace key. I would agree though that backspace key is more correctly, or at least more commonly, used to refer to a key that does delete the character to the left - a key which, as you point out, iOS keyboards do have.

For my part, I don't have much use for arrows keys that just move the cursor around on a touch screen device. Just using my finger to reposition the cursor seems much easier in almost all cases. More keys, e.g. arrow keys, would just further clutter virtual keyboards. But, everyone's different, and she may well prefer to have those arrow keys. To each their own.

That is exactly what I was referring to and I meant to come back to this thread after I realized my error, then just never did it. I have a hard time when I want to just move the cursor one or two spaces because my fat fingers don't want to cooperate. What I love, on the other hand, is speech to text. It annoys me when I'm out in public and have to actually type a text message instead of just say it and have the phone/Kindle type it for me.

I don't have that problem with moving the cursor, at least not on the iPads. If I don't hit the right spot initially I just wait an instant and the magnifying glass pops up and it's pretty easy to get the exact spot I want. I can't really say when it comes to the iPhone, I don't recall trying to move cursors much on it. But, again, I don't find it too surprising if others do have issues with precise cursor placement.

As of the dictation, I really like that as well. I didn't realize that iOS 5 (the last available for the original iPad) didn't have dictation integrated wherever there's a keyboard until I just went and checked. That must have started with iOS 6, so it's on the 2 and everything since and the iPhone 4 and everything since. I haven't used dictation a lot on other devices (e.g. Android, Windows Mobile) so I can't make a fair comparison, but I'm very impressed with how well it works in iOS - particularly when there's a lot of background noise that I would think would trip it up.

agree, i use it all the time to reply to text message instead of typing. i can just hit the button on my steering wheel and tell it what to type

I also prefer arrow keys - I get tired of repeatedly hitting my fingers and the cursor ending in the wrong spot. I *know* that an arrow key will work on the first attempt.
