I love my kitcheaid mixer, I got one at the outlets in Delaware (no sales tax) about 4-5 years ago. It was a factory refurbished unit. I read the info on factory refurbished and according to it the mixers were never used. They were returned for various reasons, but not used. Any way, mine looked brand new, works fine and had same warranty as a new one. I got the professional 600 series which has a 6 quart bowl for about $219 at that time.

Good deal, they are $350 now with the rebate.

Would a stand type be better?

I suggest you do a search for them on Amazon.com and then read the reviews of the models you are most interested in. I've found that many folks take the time to come back and give very detailed pros/cons on just about everything they purchase and it's helped me buy just what I want for the price range I want many times.

Good idea.

I personally like it better but it is a bit more expensive. You can just lift the bowl up and down without the attachment (blender, dough hook, whatever) coming out of the bowl.

Gotcha, they're just taller, right?

Just a tad plus they have a more robust motor in them. Mine easily fits underneath the kitchen cabinet but I will guarantee that sucker is HEAVY.

Oh, and I also have a set of KitchenAid knives now (at least until I can afford the Wusthof set I want!) and a combo blender/food processor unit. :jameo:

I have one I never use. I think if it was stored on the counter I would but I don't have the room. So it gets shoved to the back of the cabinet with all the attachments and I forget about it.

I would definitely get the stand-up kind, if I wanted one.
