Kroger is based in the South.

I also heard it was going to be Harris Teeter.

I didn't walk up to the permit sign, that's the only way to know for sure.

Whatever it is, the threat of some new competition has caused both Safeway and Giant to step of their game with renovations and new products.

We had Kroger in WV that was "ok" but was in OH this weekend close to Dayton and went into the biggest Kroger I have ever seen. Sooo nice. Even a hand made sushi bar with attendant!

Kroger is usually clean and well stocked. We don't really need another grocery store, but I would pick Kroger over Safeway.

not impressed
Damn, just the other day it was one of these:

Kroger would get its ass kicked by either Safeway or Giant. It's sorta the Food Lion of Ohio.

That's just BS, Kroger in TX, Ohio, and VA have all been excellent. Wine bars, fresh market food, sushi all are great things. Ghetto Kitty doesn't even compare, although FL is nicer outside of MD.

and not that anyone asked but wiki info

The Kroger Company is an American retailer founded by Bernard Kroger in 1883 in Cincinnati, Ohio. It is the country's largest grocery store chain,[2] second-largest general retailer by revenue, and fourth-largest retailer in the world (surpassing Germany-based Metro AG in 2012), according to Deloitte.[3][4] As of 2010, Kroger operated, either directly or through its subsidiaries, 2,435 stores.[5] Kroger's headquarters are in downtown Cincinnati.[6] It maintains markets in 31 states,[7] with store formats that include supermarkets, superstores, department stores, convenience stores, and mall jewelry stores. I'm from OH originally and Kroger was definitely the choice of grocery store for most everyone I knew/know there. I hear they have classed up and modernized more since the last time I was in one. I don't know why anyone would say they suck.

I'm originally from Kentucky and I just read a news story today from back home where they are getting ready to sink 70 million bucks in renovating 6 Kroger stores in the Louisville, KY Metro area. A few years ago they opened a new one that's about a 10 minute drive from my childhood home, now it's the main place where my parents shop. Once a month they have a senior citizen discount day there and my parents refer to it as 'old codgering day' :killingme
