This was mentioned in another thread, but it got sort of buried. Dont want to get a helper, and dont want to get out of your car? Really simple.

As mentioned back then, if you have issues backing up, making it hard to check your taillights/brake lights, there are places where you can pull into a spot and look back to see the reflection. I'll survey around during my travels, but I think maybe Panera might work

Google Maps

the spaces centered, where there is a row of a red, white, black, and then green cars parked, right across from Paneras handicapped spots. Get there about 7am on a Sunday and you should be able to pull in like the colored cars i named, look back and see your lights clearly reflected.

I use my garage windows. Just right for the height of my truck and the slight slope of the driveway.

This'll work. but you don't necessarily need a window; but you already knew that.

Now, to do a rough headlight alignment, you can use masking tape or painter's tape on the back bumper of another one (of your own) cars/trucks as markers. Bet'cha knew already knew THAT too, huh.

The taillight/brakelight check; same deal.....kinda. As long as you back up to a solid surface; vinyl siding; another car, you can likely see the lights' reflection in one of the three mirrors.

My version follows the "KISS" principle:) No judgement required. Alignment was beyond the scope of this post:)

Or you can buy a VW and it just comes up on the dash and tells you that a light is out, and which one it is so there is no guessing.

I had a 1983 Cadillac that had fiber optic lamp monitors. One above the back window that you could see in the rear view mirror and one on the top of each front fender.

Kinda like this:

Cool but I think that the ones that showed in the mirrors might be annoying, or maybe you would get used to them.

It was pretty small. Unless you were actually looking for it, you really didn't notice it.
