Anyone here know much about LCD televsions....
I am curious to know if I can get one and still use my roof antenna or if I must have cable or sat.
Additionally what the heck is DVI and what kind of rough-in in the walls would it require??
TIA

It seems to me if you want a high quality picture, cable or satellite would be the way to go. I havn't had much luck with antenna's giving a good quality picture. It doesn't seem like you'd give it much justice with an antenna for reception????

:yeahthat: I just couldn't see going out and paying the bucks to stick bunny ears on my TV set.

It worked a hell of a lot better than the antenna that was up on the roof... you aimed it locked on a signal,etc... it was very high tech compared to just an old antenna on the roof. You know there is a difference between the two you idiot. Yes, both act as an antenna but one is a dish and works a heck of a lot better and can be programmed and locked onto a satellite for program viewing, etc... :smack: :smack: Also, if you are going LCD why not opt to get more than just 3 or 4 channels?

Because, I think, there aren't that many that can be received yet. It's still on the ground floor as a media, and too damned expensive as well. By 2008, there will be more, or so I read.

Until then, I'll stick with my DirecTV.

from reading the original post, it sounded as if it was an old existing model that was on the roof

What we're alluding to here is High Definition TV. There are not that many channels available to us here in this area.

DirecTV does broadcast a few channels, but you have to purchase a new receiver and dish(antenna).

Very costly. Somewhere around $600 tp $900. dollars. I'm gonna wait until it comes down more.

The dish IS an antenna, you dingbat

and I admitted they both were. Ugh... :banghead: Just the same as a car is a car, but what would you rather drive - a porche or a 1970s crapped out pinto?

Sooner or later you will need to go either cable or satellite since the analog signals will finally end in 2009 (originally 2006)

If you get an LCD make sure it has a tuner in it to get TV channels and you can use an antenna. I think depending on where your located DC is broadcasting 4 channels in HD now over the antenna. Comcast has about 15 channels now in HD.

I remember the old antenna. We didn't have cable until we were teenagers.
I used to send my dad out in the backyard to turn the antenna so that Channel 4 would come in and I could watch Ducktales.

:lmao:

You might be a redneck...
