Take them to BS Gal's 'hood and burn them on a day she has her windows open. She enjoys the smell.

We have to rake acorns this weekend. There are a kajillion of them in my yard.

You could just get a goat. Mine loved acorns.

The only problem with that is instead of acorns, you'd have a kajillion goat poop balls. :ohwell:

Leaf Management - that is a good term!

I live where most houses have 1.5 to 2 acres, so some people do burn their leaves. My neighbor just loooooves to have a burn pile going every few days. Sticks, twigs, leaves, whatever he can put in that pile in the back yard and set on fire. I think it is a cultural thing. But at least their is room. The house we rented for a year in Waldorf was right on Rt 925 pretty close to Billingsley Rd. Our house was 25 feet from our neighbor's house, and they raked a pile of leaves right in between our houses and burned them there. Scared the crap out of me! :yikes:

Where I live now I bag most of the leaves with my riding mower and dump them "in the woods" on my property. I can't leave them until all the leaves have fallen, or my bagger would be full every 8 feet. I rake leaves out from the corners of the house/fence/etc, and use the leaf blower/sucker in the bushes near the house. It is a pain, and all told probably consumes 50 hours each fall/winter.

You can get a leaf blower (get a gas one, not electric) and after blowing them into a pile, switch it to vacuum mode and it will suck up the leaves into an attached bag. Then you dump that into a mulch pile and next spring/summer you have nice rich topsoil. I would be happy to loan you mine.

:yeahthat: Works really well on getting stuff out of gardens and ivy.

Okay, there are now a ton of them, and a great deal more still hanging onto the trees. My yard guy raked/mulched last week and two days later it was like he hadn't even touched it.

So I have questions:

Do I want a leaf blower for any reason or will just a rake do?

Can I burn the leaves? Where do I get a burn barrel and what are the restrictions on burning?

The leaves that are collecting in my flower beds: can I just leave (haha) them there or should I clean them out?

:giggle:

If you're going to get a leaf blower, I recommend a backpack like this one. Echo Backpack Leaf Blower PB260 at Epinions.com I keep mine on the lowest speed when clearing leaves out of flowerbeds, and blast it when handling volume. Great for gutters and post-lawn mowing, too. And no shoulder pain.

Best in small jobs, not big ones (as Vrai said). Especially if you've fertilized or over-seeded. Goal is to take the leaves away, not the fertilizer/seeds too. I live near the woods, so have to use it often. Love it!
