They have police cats now?Law said:(c) When a cat or dog is left in the unattended vehicle of an on-duty law enforcement officer or an animal control officer, the provisions of subsection (a) of this section do not apply to the law enforcement officer or the animal control officer.

what an idiot!!!![]()
Any other animals must be locked in with the engine off.....Steve said:They have police cats now?![]()
blacklabman said:Just read that in Charles County it is illegal (also stupid) to leave a vehicle running unattended. Great opportunity for a car thief. $60 fine and I hope the insurance doesn't cover the loss. Is this for other counties also?
Seatbelt saved my life once. I ALWAYS buckle up.SAHRAB said:This is doubly idiotic if this is also for those with Remote Starters (not that i do).
Sounds like more of Nanny State Maryland protection (dont even get me started on seatbelts)

You don't remote start your cart do ya??![]()
Ponytail said:I have a remote starter on my truck, and the system makes it impossible to steal. If you try to put the truck in gear, or step on the brake without the key in the iginition and turned to the "on" position, it shuts off.
I also use the system if I have to run in someplace for a coffee, or drop something off. I can remove the key, and leave the truck runing with the same security as remotely starting it.
My truck is a diesel, and it's important, especially when cold to let it run for 5-10 minutes before driving off. The system is nice in the winter, there's heat wating for me in the cab when I get in, and in teh summer, there's a chill in teh air in the cab by the time I get to it.
I can start it from like 150 yards away, from INSIDE a building. If I got a ticket, I'd have to fight it just for principle. That law is BS.
Another defense using the law itself is the vehicle was locked, the steering wheel was locked, the keys were removed..... The only requirement not met was the engine was not shut off.Ken King said:Key is the word "unattended", which for reasonable people means - "not being attended to, looked after, or watched". As the law does not specifically define the term and its intended use I think those with remote starters, where the vehicle is locked on their property, or those that start and lock the vehicle returning to the warmth of their home while waiting for it to heat up in the driveway might be able to argue that the vehicle was not unattended.
Ponytail said:I got it directly thru Ford. $250 installed. It's got a 30 second delay for the glow plugs.
There's more expensive ones, even thru Ford, that reprogram your key FOB. I just told them to install it, and I'll deal with having two FOBs, one to start it and one for the locks and alarm. I love it though.
SAHRAB said:You got a remote starter for yer "Smoker"? i was told i couldnt get it since i had to wait for the Glow Plugs, what system do you use?

Mikeinsmd said:2. without the key, the vehicle shuts itself off after 30 minutes or so.
Yes indeedy! I had a police officer explain that to me when he found my car idling outside a 7-11 that I had dashed into.greyhound said:This law has always been around.

This is a stupid law.
Sorry but I totally disagree. Stupid if they write you up in your driveway in your nice neighborhood but not stupid if you walk out of 7-11 and can't find your car. I would have to laugh at ya!!vraiblonde said:Yes indeedy! I had a police officer explain that to me when he found my car idling outside a 7-11 that I had dashed into.
