Let's Just Say.....

A dealer offered "Last chance" isn't, I don't think, it's a pressure tool to close the deal fast, before the end of the month, so the sale happens this month instead of next month. One reason I say to stay away from dealer financing, unless you are a wizard at this stuff, they have million ways to shell game stuff. From anti-theft window etching, to rustproofing and fabric protection products, wheel and tire warranties, you name, they have a ton of ways to enhance their profit at your expense.

Well, that's just it.....today is the end of the month. \:-/

their ####ing w/ you.

Technically, I 'have it in writing' from the dealership; the sale price of the car, I mean. So, I can wait to see what MY bank says?
The loan officer I spoke to today told me that she would ask "the committe" for a one-time thing since I told her that the dealer told ME that today was the last day.

Matter of fact, one of the guys from the dealership called me today and asked me if I had any luck with my bank; getting a lower rate; and that they would be open til.....I guess they want to see how fast they can get me back in there and tack on a bunch of crap to the price I have on paper already. Huh?

Just had a thought.....
Say I get a lower interest rate from MY bank; but they don't tell me til tomorrow that I'm approved. Based on that 'today's the last day for this deal' bit from the dealership; if I went in, say, tomorrow and they told me that the price they quoted me Saturday was no good 'because it's the first of the month now'; what's next? Just tear up the P.O. and walk out? "Have a nice day?" Thanking them for their 'time and effort', though.....
Gotta be polite.

Got a call from the bank. I've been approved :yahoo:
Got a call from the dealership: "We will only be able to hold the car with this rate; the higher one; until tomorrow."

So, tomorrow, I go to the bank, get the check, get my car, and pay the bank's lower payment. I'm guessing/hoping it's lower than 54 months at 3/9%/$381.16/month. Maybe 2-something/month?
Hey, I can dream.
:yahoo: again.

The family:
"So THAT is where you were for three hours last Saturday!" "Buying a car!"

Good for you. Sorry I didnt get to your PM earlier, looks to be OBE now:) Last hurdle is the F&I guy, the one who writes up the purchase contract. The salesguys, they are baby sharks in training. The Sales Managers, they are adult sharks.....the F&I guy? He's that Mega-shark from prehistoric times.......Watch him like a hawk. Make sure they don't slip last minute stuff in there, and want you to out of pocket it.

Window etching - waste of time and money, car theft is at an all time low, especially down here.

Wheel and or tire warranty - Modern tires and wheels are pretty good and don't fail very much the odds of you needing it before they kill you with prorates are very slim.

Scotchgaurd, or similar paint or fabric protection - Nothing they have is any different that what you can buy from Wal-Marts auto section. And trying to get anything from them in case it doesnt work is usually an exercise in futility.

Make sure your bank check covers exactly what you need, no extras, makes it easier to say no.

Read this, it's a good primer, all four pages.....no skipping:)

I faxed the purchase order to my bank. The loan officer asked 'the committee' for a decision MONDAY. I got a phone call from said loan officer before I left work; approved for the amount on the purchase order. So, I told Winegardner I wouldn't be able to get there til today (Tue). But, when I do get there, that check is all I'm gonna give 'em; nothing outta pocket; cuz there ain't a whole lot there at the moment.

I have used dealer financing and driven the new car to the bank and re-financed at a lower rate.

You did read that article, right? I didnt til after I told you to,based on the accuracy of the Edmunds article "Confessions of a Car Salesman". Read this new one last night, and of course, it nailed it perfectly. You really need the information in there.

Since today is basically the "last chance" to get this car at the rate the dealer quoted me; other than my down payment and/or my car as trade in; should I expect to need any MORE money?
You don't "need" any money when you buy a vehicle. If the price is right and you like the payment, there's no reason to plop down $1000 to save $15 a month. If you had a few thousand to put on the table it would be different. And for the $500 they are offering you in trade, I'd keep the vehicle and donate it instead.

I have used dealer financing and driven the new car to the bank and re-financed at a lower rate.

And that's how it works these days. The last 2 vehicles I've purchased (December 11 and February 11), have been on a "promise" that I'll get financing w/in a specified number of days; typically 3. I sign, I drive and I mail a check (or drop it off) to the dealer.

That's what I'm thinking about doing; but they included the $500 for trade in on what I have now, when they wrote the purchase order.
I'm guessing I don't necessarily have to agree to trading in, huh? Remember.....I told them I was NOT trading in.

Besides, I have a check from the bank for the price quoted on the purchase order I was given. What're they gonna do? Put a boot on my current car and NOT let me take both of them with me??

Yeah, I sound like I'm fretting. I just don't want them to tell me, 'well, you cannot take receipt of this new car UNLESS you leave us your car in trade.

Yeah, I sound like I'm fretting. I also don't want them to tell me, 'well, if you're not trading in; we have to re-write this purchase order.

I'm thinking, I can sign the paperwork, give them the bank check for the 0'12 and take BOTH cars home.
Convoluted enough??
