Just got this email from Bank of America:

The nearby financial center at 21800 North Shangri La Drive, Unit 22, Lexington Park, MD you may have visited in the past or where you opened your account will officially close on 09/26/2023. Your account will stay the same, and we have specialists ready to provide you with the advice and guidance you need.

I would have hoped they would at least leave the ATM there but doesn't seem like that's the case. Guess I'll have to drive up to Mechanicsville if I need something in person.

Sigh.

Well Damn!!! The only physical bank in St. Mary's will be Mechanicsville. Lusby has an all service ATM in the Weiss shopping center. St. Marys hospital has an ATM, but only for checking balances and cash withdrawl, no deposits. Guess its time to look at another bank.

Husband and sons use their ATM often because they go to Morgan's Barber Shop across the street and they don't take credit cards so they need cash to pay and tip.

Just like WaWa on great mills, if your profit from the business doesnt pay enough to cover the 60-80k annual cost of a live security guard, you gotta shut down.

Another good reason for closing my accounts there recently...after 37 years. Was once a good bank with good service. That was a long time ago.
I have never intentionally had an account with Wells Fargo, and yet I have had four accounts with them. They bought Crocker in the 80s. I stayed a few years before I got fed up with them and then closed that account and opened a new account with First Interstate, and they bought that one too. So I closed that account and went with BofA (which I later closed in favor of a credit union). I also had two mortgages that they bought from the banks that originally gave them to me.

It was a great little bank when it was Maryland National Bank. I had all my personal and business accounts there..mortgage and auto loans too. Knew most of the staff and the branch manager on first name basis.....could get anything done with a phone call, which mattered a LOT in the days before smart phones, internet account access etc and me overseas more than in the US. Oh well....them days are long gone.

Husband thinks they are going to tear down everything in the area. The hotel is scheduled for demo. The office building is completely empty. Now the bank. Maybe rebuilding in stages so more businesses might be closing in the area over the next year or so.

She had a plan years ago. That was I think contingent upon government grant money for revitalization but I think all that fell through. The latest plan they floated just in the last week, I think basically just showed a reskin of the existing buildings with exciting new tenants in them. But then the article goes on to explain that none of the businesses pictured have actually been in any discussions. They're really just notional. Which makes sense sinces
one of them was harbor freight

Just sneakin' around....
Was talking with someone who says there is a master plan which calls for the total re-vitalization of Lex Park. More than one group of stores is slated for demo/rebuild.

The row where Linda's Cafe is was supposed to be leveled years ago, but somehow is still there.

Yeah, think that plan crashed and burned years ago. It required a lot of grant money that never happened. Was floated back arounf 2011, which was a rehash of 1999 plan.

Yeah, saw that. I mean making it a real parking lot would help, thats the biggest parking shitshow this side of a Tijuana market. But that render doesn't show any new space, just new facades on the same 48 year old buildings. And of course, whatever you put there needs to accommodate the indigents. And no way are they making another aldi 5 miles south of a new one, nor a Harbor freight.

That rendering does show the Belvedere no longer there and nothing in its place.

Have they done anything with the Flat-Top property?

Two good, but no local branches, banks I use are Ally and Discover. They have customer service 24/7 and its a native English speaker every time I have called. Also you can't beat their interest rates, have CDs and online savings/checking with both of them. I do keep an account at Cedar Point and Truist also for access to the ATMs. Jeeze I have four banks...
