Hey ya'll... My husband is Coast Guard and we will be transferring to Station St. Inigoes next month. We were looking at apartments in Lexington Park, and because I've never been to the area its hard to see which ones are decent from an internet picture... Has anyone lived in any in Lexington Park(or surrounding areas) that they would reccommend?

I had looked at Wildewood, and I wish we could afford that... Our first child is due in July, so there will only be one income for three people to live off of, and the rent for a two bedroom there just isn't possible for us right now... Thanks anyway!!!!

Wildewood in California is nice.
Very nice - and the neighborhood is safe, too.

The Greens used to be nice but not sure what they're like anymore.

There are some decent looking apartments behind the McKays on Great Mills Road. Last time I looked. although that was like a year ago, they didnt seem too ghetto.

Contact the base housing office at NAS PAX RIVER. They have many listings available that has furnished/unfurnished apts and houses for rent in the area.

301-342-3847/3846

I have a buddy that may be moving from the house they are renting on the water right near St Inigoes. If you are interested let me know and I will ask him what his plans are.

Are you allowed to stay in Navy base housing? If so I recommend getting on the waiting list NOW. Even if you don't plan on staying in base housing.

Yeah, we could get into Navy Housing... I will go ahead and talk to my husband about getting on the waiting list... We had really wanted to live off the economy though, because they would take his BAH away, and we usually wind up doing better and paying the bills ourself... But if we run out of options, its always nice to have a back-up plan! How is the navy housing around there>?

Not sure what your husband's grade is but the BAH for Patuxent River starts at $1214 w/dependents. At that amount you should be able to find a Wildewood apartment.

Looking at the rental classifieds on this site I see several in the less then $1000 range.

Where are you transferring from? The reason I ask is because it used to be that way for me too (saving some extra money from BAH) when I was stationed in Jax, FL. Up here its not like that. Seems like whenever the BAH rates go up, the rent prices go up too. Unless you find a smoking deal, after all the bills and its said and done, youre not any better living out in town. Plus you have to worry about the crime out in town.

Glenn Forest is the best I think...its out in town...seperate from the base. and they have garages. The ones you would be looking at on PAX are ok...about the same as what you could afford out in town unless your husband is an officer.

There was a recent contract for Navy housing started up, so the quality of life is supposed to go up. By how much and what I don't know.

"live off the economy"....been a while since I've heard that one....you must've been overseas recently....

I personally don't recommend the base housing at Pax for various reasons

In MY opinion, base housing here sucks. I'm sure it's not the worst, but it sure could be better. I live in Conrad Heights (on base), same layout as Lovell court and Chafee court. The kitchen, and dining room is so small! I am forever smacking my head or arms in the bathroom downstairs, those are small too! This stuff is lacking in size, but the backyards are good, some good points and some bad. We are dealing with it. Now the parking, that really stinks, but that depends on where your unit is exactly. You don't have a carport here, and where we live, it's a good 500 ft UPHILL from the parking lot. That sure blows commissary day, the kids wagon comes in so handy then. This stuff is supposed to be torn down sometime soon, but when that will actually happen, no one knows (maybe late this year?), and where we would get moved to is another question. We are just staying here because it is hard to find good rentals out in town with what you are looking for.

I've worked at Webster Field, which is where Station St. Inigoes is, for 15 years. I commute about 35 miles, which takes 40 minutes. For convenience, I recommend the Greens on Willows road. I had a place there for 1 1/2 years. It's the same as apartment living everywhere - if you have good neighbors it's fine, but you still share walls, floors, and ceilings with others so who knows.

It's far enough away to escape most of the crime in the area, but it's also close enough to shopping to be convenient. They have pools and a small gym. Since your kid won't be school age for a while, the school situation shouldn't matter. There are decent parks within a short drive - it would be a short walk, but they don't believe in pedestrians here.

The commute from there to the station is about 15 minutes and traffic is painless.

RoseRed is correct that Wildewood is nicer, but the commute is a lot longer. The schools are also a bit better up there. If you had school age kids, I would definitely go the Wildewood route.

I wouldn't go any closer to St. Inigoes until you learn the area. You can end up in some really rural areas and have surprises like no cable, no cell phone service, no snow removal, no pizza delivery, and no shopping. Once you learn the area, there are nice rural areas closer to the station and you can decide what trade offs you are willing to deal with.

If you need first hand info, I know some coasties who've been stationed there, but your hubby can probably get good scoop from his command.

Hope this helps, and welcome to the area.

Do you happen to have a link to the website for the Wildewood Condos? I must have been looking at the wrong ones?

[*]Riverbay Townhomes - No idea

[*]Spyglass at Cedar Cove - Do you like jet noise? Would you like to have a colicky infant, just get him/her down, think you are finally going get a few minutes of sleep, then get blasted by a fighter at full after burner? If you had hearing loss and no chance of having an infant, this place would be okay.

[*]Westbury - I assume that since your hubby is in the USCG, you guys are probably not crack heads, so you won't fit in.

Keep looking, and we'll keep trying to help. Good luck!
