I did read the first report mentioning Ken's name. It was only half successful. Icarus completed his flight, but Daedulus crashed due to faulty altitude data supplied by the range.

Yeah, we relied upon an azzhat specialist named MMDad that insisted that he could accurately determine altitude based on multiples of his "johnson", as he claimed it to be a foot in length. Seems he was woefully wrong in his measurements by about 75%, even though his math computations were correct. This was later validated by his wife when she heard of his methodology and retorted "Foot, that SOB ain't even three inches". She went on to add that it was great sex anytime he lasted for more than a foot.

I guess we now know that the MM in MMDad means millimeter.

Neither, (Air Force) was Aerospace Control and Warning Systems operator, then Electronic Warfare Specialist and ended up as an Enlisted Surveillance Officer with AWACS before going civil service and now run the Military Radar Units for Pax.

Son of a preacher man, eh? Cool :yay:

Did he happen to pull a tour in Iceland in the late 70s, because I have a funny little story dealing with an Air Force Chaplain while stationed up there. And it ain't the bad kind of funny, if you know what I mean.

Hey ya'll... My husband is Coast Guard and we will be transferring to Station St. Inigoes next month. We were looking at apartments in Lexington Park, and because I've never been to the area its hard to see which ones are decent from an internet picture... Has anyone lived in any in Lexington Park(or surrounding areas) that they would reccommend?

you could try Queen Anne apartments ....i listen to the scanner frequently and there seems not to be any problems there.... or indian bridge apartments
there is also fox chase .....st mary's landing too...stay away from lexwood area and chancelor's run apartments also shangra lai...they seem to have a lot of crime....but as with any neighborhood you choose...it is all a matter of kind of keeping to yourself sadly enough to say .... good luck...

:howdy: Coastie,

I moved to Lexington Park in Oct 2004 and so far so good. I love it here. I moved from Washington, DC and even though most of the SMC residents say LP is bad, I am not so sure about all of that. I have not experienced any problems that couldnt have happened in any other neighborhood. Meaning spoiled, unbehaved children, non-poop scooping dog walkers, harassing tow truck drivers, and an HOA that just won't quit. To me those are crimes, hmm.

I will admit I do see a lot of ambulance and fire truck activity but could that be that there are two fire dept.'s on Great Mills Rd. Even though there is alleged street walker activity on GM Rd, I have never seen it myself, though there is a hotel that I hear has much of that activity. I also have not heard gunshots or seen drug activity out and about but I don't make the mistake of thinking it does not happen.

The police here in SMC are very vigilant and I doubt they allow too much to go on. When I read the paper the crimes I read about are mostly petty theft. It's not like the crimes of DC, NY or LA. So if a crime happens you may not even learn of it until you read the paper or somd.com's home page.

In addition, my mom would like to move here and a co-worker of mine has also moved her family here from Silver Spring, MD. It is small enough to not feel overwhelmed yet big enough to know you are not missing out on some city life. In addition, most people who moved here once upon a time have not left even though by now they could have. I would assume they like it.

I won't say that Lexington Park is for everyone I will say that a lot of people here like it. They frequent the movie theater, the restaurants and stores. As for the others who think LP is the ghetto and crime ridden, whether or not they are snobby is another thing. I say to each his or her own.

I think the entire county is balanced, there is modern living, rural living, impoverished living, middle class living, and those who think they are in Beverly Hills, MD living. I would however love to know what you feel once you get here.

The only thing I agree with is that you should choose your friends wisely once you get here and stay to yourself as long as you can simply because you don't know anyone to trust and make a good judgement. Let your hubby be your friend and make acquaintances one at a time. And that you should eventually look into buying vs. renting.

Lastly, you always have the forums, it's like being out and about and knowing what's going on without actually seeing it for yourself. As you probably can tell from all the descriptions of the neighborhoods. Good luck and welcome to SoMd.

I'll throw this out as an option for you Coastie: Have you guys thought about a fifth wheel?? We bought a truck and a fifth wheel for approx. $800/month and then lot rent of $400. We decided that at the end of our 3 years here (hubby is Navy) we would own our retirement vehicle. That way we don't feel like we are just throwing the BHA away. Just wanted to give you another option along with base housing.

If he's going to be stationed at St Inigoes, why not try to find a place by St Inigoes.. there's a beautiful HOUSE for rent on our street for 1300.. and I'm about 4 miles from St Inigoes.. It's where I work too, though not with the Light Blues..

It's been for rent for awhile so the rent MIGHT be negotiable

She's preggers, so give her a little info about distance to shopping, Dr., Hospital, etc. I agree, living down that way would be convenient, but it can be real culture shock if you don't know the area.

Coastie,

FYI the nearest mall is in Waldorf, which is about 45-60 minutes away depending on where you wind up living in that area.

yes this IS the country.. but coming from the South of PAX the traffic is never a problem getting anywhere. Shopping, Target, Wal-Mart, BJ's.. etc are within 15 - 20 minutes from here. St Marys hospital is about 20 - 25 minutes, and has a GOOD delivery ward.. We just used it ourselves. The house I mentioned has a 2 acre yard, as do most of the houses here, and have horse farms close by.. BEAUTIFUL country, and close to the water.

Don't do that to her. Never recommend Waldorf to someone until you've met her and decide you hate her.

But he is correct. The nearest mall is about an hour away, but I recommend Annapolis. There are way too many shootings and stabbings at the mall in Waldorf.

I 2nd Bobs suggestion. I live in St Inigoes, have lived in this area most of my life..

While we are a little ways away from everything...it's gorgeous country. The houses aren't too close, the yards are big, the neighbors friendly and respectful, Tight nit and safe feeling. It's home sweet home and I wouldn't want to raise my girls anywhere else!

There's a gorgeous, albeit older, house for rent right up from where I am on Trapp Road. It's been redone on the inside and has a big work shed out back. I am not sure of the rent, but can get the number easily enough.
