Loads of BMW's

You and your partner need to park the bike and get your fatasses up and walk..

If I weighed 400 pounds I wouldn't ride a bike, I'd buy a Ford Heavy Duty.

BUT if I take my weight (since I'd be the one riding both bikes) and apply MY weight to both bikes..

505 + 235 and HP = 110 (2009 RT)

Lets see that equals 740 pounds..

110/740 = .148 HP per Pound OR 6.72 Punds per HP

and your bike 788 + 235 and HP = 107 (2009 Rocket)

That equals 1023

.104 HP per pound (or .1368 on an older better made Rocket).. OR 9.56 pounds per HP (or 7.3 lbs on an older Rocket)

The disadvantage is HUGE.. almost 50% on the apples to apples comparison 2009 to 2009..

Even going back to the BETTER Rocket, there is still a disadvantage though not as great.

Yep, I don't know ratios, or numbers.

I'll give you volume.. I'm sure your bike has WAAAY more decibels.. especially when it's trying to lug your 400 pound fatass up a hill.

Well it looks like you got your head up your butt and it looks like it’s up to me to straighten you out, again.
Desertrat tried to help you out, but you’re just too thick skulled.

The R3T dropped hp in favor of torque. Also dropped the 240 rear tire. The standard and classic both have 140hp.

I rounded the weight of 2 riders to 400 pounds, let’s talk real numbers.

I bought the R3 to ride double, I’m like you, weight in at 235 (well, 240 at the Dr office). I don’t have the nerve to ask SWMBO how much she weighs, but I figure 370 combined is close.

The lighter the load, the better the RT looks, the heavier the load, the better the R3 looks, that’s what I meant about ratios.

Desertrat used dry weight for the R3.
Bob used wet weight for the R3T, and dry weight for the RT. Yeah, I guess he thinks that's fair.

Wet for the R3 is 772, it has a bigger gas tank, less accessories (than the R3T).
Wet weight for the RT is 571.

Using Desertrat’s math for my sweetie an I:

R3 140/1142 (772+370) =.122 hp/lb 147/1142 = .128ftlbs/lb
RT 110/941 (571 +370)=.117hp/lb 85/941= .090 ftlbs/lb

Point 005 is hardly a difference, but an advantage.
Point 038 isn’t much either, but it is just the start.

Add some camping gear, and/or adult beverages, and who would rather take an interstate trip on the RT instead of the R3? Easy answer, a BMW fan.

You can tell me all day long my engine is working just as hard as yours, and I won’t believe it.

My apologies aps, I should have indicated Bob (for thinking I knew nothing about BMW and Ural).

I don’t think Triumph is getting a kickback from every quart of Mobil T4 they sell because it MIGHT go into a Triumph.

I don’t buy generic filters because I like my Triumph shop, and want to support it. The oil, I buy at autozone.

I bowl overhand
Dry Weight (lbs/kg) 788 / 357.4

This is right off of the spec sheet.

Didn't care enough to research the fact that there were THREE different Rockets, and if you wanted to compare apples to apples, it WOULD make sense to compare BMW RT to the Rocket Tour 3, those are both touring bikes.

Your bike would be more inline with the K1300R. Naked Sport Bike (at least in your mind that's what your bike is) with four cylinders, but still at half the displacement.

And it only took them building an engine 50% bigger, with an extra cylinder to get there..

WOW!

Math just isn't your strong suit.

RT 1170 cc
R3 2294 cc

The engine is nearly 100% bigger.

Muscle, or efficiency?
I'll take muscle.

Being right or being wrong?
I'll take being right.

RT is a 2 cylinder, Rocket it three, an extra cylinder, 50% bigger.

And you're right, it's TWICE the displacement for little or no gain.

Hummm, size is based on the number of pistons.
That means my first bike, the 1966 Yamaha Twin Jet 100, is the same size as the BMW 1200RT.

Let's see, 9.2 hp, weighted about 125 pounds, maybe less. I used to pick that thing up to park it. Only cost $450. What a bargain.
Gee, maybe I should get rid of the Rocket and buy back that Twin. I'll have to do the math and see how efficient it was.

No, what am I thinking.
Give me the muscle!

Nice to see this went from a I thought I saw someone to every little spec on the bikes.

Ive seen a few more BMW bikes this week and it seems all of them have those little saddle bags. Guess you guys need somewhere to put your purses :dye:

Leave us out of this. You Eurosnobs can go right back to shaking your Internet wieners at each other.

:fixed:

Feel better?

You're just jealous....

Almost dropped it. But almost only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades...

Low fast corner, felt the rear tire break loose. Stayed with it, didn't over-react, and it caught a second or two later. But for that brief moment, I was power-sliding thru the corner.

You have a bike yet?

... or still sitting on the porch watching and wishing?
