We have a solid concrete walled basement under the house, no worries.
I have an old house with only a crawl space underneath. My cat and I heard it under the kitchen area. It burrowed under the pavers that were blocking that entrance because the heavy screen was gone.

Ours doesn't wait that long. I've caught ours having its meal between 9-10pm. Our cat (her eyesight may not be that good) started walking up to it like it was another neighborhood cat. Then had the "wait a minute" pause.

Interesting thing. Our possum likes kibble better than soft cat food.

I made a feeding station for the neighborhood wanderers. There's about 1 dozen cats that come by, a couple every day, some once a week or so, others in between that. There are 3 possums. Had a red fox this year until mid-summer.

I think a juvenile skunk chased it off for good one night. One and only time I've seen a skunk.
