Ranch is actually very low in carbs and ok if you make sure it is the full fat kind...low fat is high in carbs.

Beans can be ok as well because they are very high in fiber which cancels out some carbs and makes for lower "net carbs"...gotta look which kind though..some are better than others.

and yes tomatos tend to be higher in carbs..so I nix them in favor of other things..
If you are trying to stay under 20-30 net grams per day then you really do need to check the net grams of all the beans in chili. I made beanless chili when I was actually sticking to my diet.

:neener: I don't care.

It was damn good, and I enjoyed every single bite.

I thought black beans were ok, but maybe I'm wrong.

Food Serving Carbohydrates Dietary Fiber

Black beans 1/2 cup, boiled
20.4 g Carbs
-6.1 g Fiber
= 14.3 g Net Carbs for 1/2 Cup.

True. Atkins.com has an "acceptable foods list" that is really helpful.when I was restricting carbs more I stuck to this list and it really simplified things..plus it includes carb counts. Now that I have loosened up a little I throw a 1/4 cup or so of beans in the chili..but I did used to make beanless chili when I was being restrictive..but you have to watch the tomatos there too...

English is weird. There is an "e" in tomatoes..but not tomato? because tomatoe is wrong..but tomatos looks wrong too. Why do I struggle with the simple words?

We have the hardest language in the world. Just ask all the illegal mexicans in the USA.

I am doing pretty well on a low carb approach..

but im getting VERY tired of cheese and pepperoni....as for meals I do chili, or bunless burgers, or grilled chicken with bacon and cheese..but im getting really sick of those things..any suggestions for good low carb meals? ( I keep it very low carb, trying to keep them 20-30 a day)

I did protein power 8 years ago. Similar to Atkins. Drs Eades

I remember my step mother doing atkins and all she ate was bacon:whistle:

There should be plenty to eat if you get a book. I would include a good amount of fruit in the diet along with fiber.

One can't eat fruit on a low carb diet.

of course you can. You just incorporate it into your meals. Some fruits are higher in sugar than others.

South Beach introduces fruits back into your diet into the second phase. No low carb diets allow you fruits in the first phase. It would be impossible for you to keep under 25g net carbs if you had any type of fruit.

Well I of course have salads ..and various veggies..I'm just looking for new ideas..I do omelettes...meats..that sort of thing...for instance when I remembered I could make chili it was the best day ever..I am looking for something new....

anyone try dreamfields pasta? supposed to only have 5 carbs per 1/2 cup..due to some process or something...not suppossed to impact blood sugar...but I am not sure if it really doesnt....

buffalo wings..yum. forgot about those..and homemade blue cheese..barely carbs at all.:yahoo:

Thats the pasta I use :yay: I like it.

I found my new favorite snack...
I was looking for something for breakfast when I am too lazy to make eggs/wrap etc...so I bought some plain oikos yougurt cups (5 carbs 12g protein) ..the flavors were too high in sugar..so I am not particularly fond of the non- flavored but I am restricting right now..so at my desk trying to choke it down..i had alittle inspiration and added a little bit of crystal light powder to it...delicious!! Better than the flavors IMO and no added carbs. my new fave snack..only 5 carbs.

Dreamfields Pasta is now at Safeway!

I just went shopping at the Safeway in Prince Frederick last night. They've started carrying some Dreamfields Pasta. They have the elbows, the penne and the spaghetti. :yahoo: I wasn't able to find it anywhere for such a long time. Made some last night, can't even tell it's low carb it's so good. Not sure if the other SW stores are carrying it but it's worth a look.
