Maryland: State's Right Supercedes Parent's Rights

The Maryland State Board of Education has ruled that the right of the state supersedes the rights of parents in teaching children about homosexuality. The Board said the "right (of parents) is not absolute. It must bend to the State's duty to educate its citizens."

The ruling means that the teaching of homosexuality as an accepted and approved lifestyle in Maryland public schools can move forward. Very important! Some professionals feel that the Maryland curriculum could become the model for promoting the homosexual lifestyle in public schools across the nation.

The new policy prohibits any unfavorable view of homosexuality from being presented. A video for use with eighth-graders instructs students on how to put a condom on a pen-s.

The Board has been trying to incorporate the promotion of homosexuality into their sex-education classes. A federal judge overturned a previous attempt to include the promotion of homosexuality because of the curriculum's expressed hostility toward Christianity.

But in approving the new curriculum, the Board refused to hear arguments from those who oppose the promotion of homosexuality in the classroom.

Indoctrination...

Opposition groups argued that the new lessons violate free-speech rights of students by expressing only one viewpoint on homosexuality, wholly favorable, and that they restrict religious expression by suppressing the view that homosexuality is a sin. They said the lessons violate the constitutional right of equal protection by excluding the perspective of former homosexuals and also the fundamental right of a parent to control the upbringing of a child.

The state school board dismissed each argument in turn. Local school boards are not required to show all viewpoints in writing curriculum

Queer is as queer does? It's like a box of chocolates.....but that's too graphic for a family-oriented public forum.

I'll repeat what I said earlier this year about this. Parents unite and pull your kids out of any school that teaches this filth. You have the power and this government will only make more bad calls like this if you don't stop them. If you do nothing, don't complain but thousands of kids pulled out of school WILL get your point across to this evil government. AAATTTSSS right!

The school has no business teaching kids about sexuality in any way, shape or form.

But Gwendolyn, what's wrong with calling homosexuals "gays"? :confused"

That was a typo I had originally said "gays" instead of "homosexuals", and inserted instead of deleted. I then meant to type queer and just plain forgot.

I edited my statement for 10 minutes or because I didn't want to say anything I'd regret later. I fixed it.

and, those of us that dont want our children exposed to the lie that homos are acceptable.
do we have any recourse other than to insure that our children are taught the truth about rump rangers?

I can see where this is going to get ugly.

If we have the power and it's in our vote. The only way to stop them is not elect them.

Not so fast... The 12 members of the State Board of Ed. are appointed or reappointed by the gov. In looking at the term rotations, looks like this board was appointed by Ehrlich. O’Malley gets his first two appointment opportunities this year.

When there is a Pride event covered on TV or the radio news, we keep on hearing homosexuals chanting "we're here, we're queer" and calling themselves fags. If they don't want to be called those things, why would they go on national TV chanting it?

As for the filth statement, you'll learn to expect that from Scallion. He's very angry and full of hate.

when something like this surfaces, you can expect that people will respond with hatefull speach out of pure anger.

The state has no right to control how a child looks at moral issues, that is up to the parents to teach.

the argument for not allowing the mention of religion in schools is that it is an indoctrination into religion. It has been stated that any religious belief should come from the home, not the school.

This is no different. The article claims that it will be taught as an acceptable lifestye, and then goes on to say that no comments that would be considered against homosexuality will be allowed.

The state is overstepping its rights to your children in this issue, and it needs to be stopped before they can go any farther.

Schools should be teaching the basics, math, science, english, art, music. To include a political view is not in the scope of what the school should be doing.

as a parent, it is my job to teach my child family values, not the states.
I refuse to allow my daughter to be coherced by a liberal leaning agenda to accept those things that we know are wrong.

all this has done is forced me to teach her that homosexuality is a vile sin, and I can no longer sit back and wait for her to make her own decision. She must have both sides of the issue in order to make an informed decision, and the school is not willing to do that.

How will that help?? thousand of kids pulled out of school sounds like it would free up a lot of tax money for more visual aids to help promote the gay lifestyle..

More fines (revenue) for people illegally taking their kids out of school.. Figure they can force the curriculum because you are already forced to attend.. and do you REALLY think they care if your kids actually get an education? Well, at least not a viable education, they care that your kids get taught what THEY want them to be taught..

Didn't we start down this path like thirty years ago when they started teaching sex-ed in school??

we did.
and, look at the increase in teen pregnancy over that same period of time.

some things are best left to the parents.
Personally I think that taking the child out of school is a bad move, however I do not see a problem with the voting public forcing this issue onto a ballot.

the state is out of control due to a one party system, and somehow the people need to regain power that has been lost.

Becasue they are opposed to the gay lifestyle, and don't want their kids educated in that lifestyle, that makes them BIGOTS!??

How tolerant you are of other people's beliefs...
