Please explain, I've never ehard of a platform bed... do you have pictures? a website link or something? If its cheaper and not quite an airmattress... I may be interested.
It's not a mattress, it's an actual bed frame. We bought ours at Ikea...I wanna say it was around $300 for a King size bed. We purchased our mattress online from a company Morgan suggested, and that was around $450 I think.

I see, thanks. That makes my back hurt just looking at it  I guess I just like the visions of comfy soft bed, one you sink into, not bounce into and out of  Does it fit "normall" sized sheets or do you have to buy platform sheets only? It wouldn't be much of a savings if I had to buy all new sheets

Then again, that's my price range. But I don't want to drive up to Ikea and haul it back (especially if it'll be a rainey weekend). I'll keep looking!! Thanks for all y'all's helpful suggestions!!! :huggy:

Dems, you just put a regular mattress on it. The only difference is that you don't need a boxspring. Mine sits very low to the ground, but that's because that's the type of bed I wanted.

It's a friggin platform, what do you not understand about that?

It just looks different from the normal kinds of beds I'm used to sleeping in. It looks like a big futon so I was thinking futon mattress or something. Don't have to be so grounchy about it. Besides, don't you have some jewlrey or something you should be looking for on the beltway?

I've heard that there are various names for mattress' when a lot of them are just the same. It is the individual company that tries to promote theirs and calls it something other than the next. Anyone know how true this is?

Anyway, dems...we have a double pillow top. I love it! It is so comfy, but heavy and can be a PIA when flipping it around.

I like Mattress Corner (went to the one in LP), I prefer the one salesman to the other but they both were nice, not pushy. I bought my daughters twin size bed with headboard for $380. Then went back a few weeks later and bought my boys a twin and full size mattress for their bunkbeds for $430. They delivered them and set them up for us too. The one guy was willing to barter a little.

When we moved B and I got a new bed and mattress. We went for a platform bed with slats and a foam mattress (no boxspring needed with the slats). I LOVE it. The honking butt expensive regular mattress I was sleeping on before was no wear near as comphy. I have neck/shoulder issues so I'm pretty particular.

Did you get the memory foam I see advertised all the time on TV - I think it is called Tempurpedic (SP?)? I already have the platform bed - bought a waterbed frame cause I wanted drawers under the bed for storage and we put our old, 20 year mattress on it. But it is time for a new one but I worry the the memory foam mattresses will compress over time. Anyone have any experience with them?

Mattress Warehouse has some GREAT deals too!!! www.sleephappens.com

I bought at Mattress Warehouse during the labor day weekend sale - delivery on 9-16-06. Of course, that date has come and gone and no mattress arrived. They "guaranteed" it was on the truck and would be delivered several times yesterday. We called several times and the salesman repeatedly told us it was going to be delivered. We were told that the delivery people would call with a 3 hour window to deliver. We never got that call, so we called MW customer service and the store at least 7 times. They never once called us back. The store changed their story several times during the day, so I suspect that our order was never actually submitted. What a royal screw up. We called at 8 p.m., and I swear to god he said that it was still going to be delivered, that their guys stay on the job until everything is delivered. What a load of crap. I can't believe he kept saying that. Needless to say, we called this morning and cancelled the order. I notified my credit card company of the dispute so I won't be out any money for their idiocy.

My advice: Avoid Mattress Warehouse like the plague.

But wait, there's more...
Overstock.com carries the springair line and will deliver for $2.95. I saw them on there, then found a place locally that carried the king plush euro top back supporter mattress (not on there now), and the local place matched the price overstock had, and I took it home myself. If they hadn't, though, I'd have ordered it on the Big O, and had them deliver it. Find a place that carries springair mattresses and test them out. They're pretty good, and I love mine! I've got back and neck issues, thus I went with the back supporter.

Another tip for traditional frame bed owners who have bed slats (vs. metal frame). Replace your wooden slats with 2x6s. I did this a year ago ... have 6 of them, and it increased the support of the bed so much, without compromising the soft pillow/euro top cushiness. :yay:
