:elaine: Today January 18, at 6:00 pm is another public meeting of the Board of Education at the BOE meeting room on Moakley St. Leonardtown.
I am expecting the BOE to speak about my testimonial of putting our students into unsafe fire box trailors "relocatables" at the SMC schools.
See my text at, "The Cusick Blog."

Then tomorrow on Thursday January 19, the League of Women Voters is to have thier public Forum about "Civil Liberties". That meeting is from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. at the Lexington Park Library.

:yay: I do plan to attend both meetings. Y'all come now, ya hear!!!

Your testimony is not valid. Every school trailer in this county has a operable fire alarm system. Trailers greater than 1000 square feet are required to have two means of escape per the code. In addition, there are battery powered exit lights in case of a power failure. All new trailers are inspected by the state fire marshal prior to occupancy. And are routinely tested for function. Fire extinguisher replacement is done regularly under a contract with local fire extinguisher service people. Most school buildings with the exception of new and recently renovated ones in this county are not sprinklered either. Fire drills are conducted regularly as mandated. At a cost of around $100.00 square feet, they are roughly half the cost of building new space. If you have a problem with the trailers, your complaint should be with the code and the state fire marshals office not with the BOE. If you want to get rid of trailers you better be prepared to pony up major bucks. I doubt if you have ever even been in one. They are well constructed, have their own HVAC system, and most teachers prefer to teach in them because of reduced distractions from other classes. What happened at Carver can happen in any structure regardless of age or construction. If the fire occurred during classroom instruction. The fire alarm would have sounded and the teacher would have escorted thier students to the designated evacuation area. The trailer that burned at Carver had two exits in each classroom. It should also be noted that the trailer that burned was owned by the County Government and not the school system and was operated by the College of Southern Maryland when it was a community college. The fire alarm system was not updated until the school system took over. Let's stop the "sky is falling" syndrome and concentrate on real issues.

:yay: The real issue is the overcrowding. The trailors are used to make room for the overcrowding. The overcrowding is happening all through the County's infrastructure and not just the schools. The fact that the teachers and students probably can run out of the fire boxes before any one gets hurt is not the point. We need political leaders in our home town here to speak up about the overcrowding and to put a stop to it.

All the overcrowding is coming out of the greed driven big business from the Navy Base and it needs to be stopped and I plan to stop it flat.

Consider the new families coming into our County to work on the new Navy projects and they find that their children are put into "relocatables" that now some have already burned and you can tell them that hey, if the trailor catches fire then the kids can run away from the fire and we will put you a new trailor there to take its place because not rain nor sleet nor burning school houses will stop our Navy Base greed from coming in.

It should be interesting to see him get up in front of the League of Women Voters and say he doesn't think there should be any enforcement of the child support laws

Which, of course, explains why school overcrowding is a phenomenon observed only in Southern Maryland, and St. Mary's in particular.

I think the solution to school over crowding is sterilization of anyone who receives government assistance.

He needs a ride, as he can't drive because of his attitude. Could you please arrange to pick him up? He's at the LP Library. He'd appreciate it and so would we. TYVM.
