So because you are old fashioned, everyone who is married should wear a wedding band? That's stupid. I wear my band because it's gorgeous, I picked it out, I love it, I wear it. If my husband decided (for work reasons, when he's on the ship or wherever) that he didn't want to wear his, I wouldn't care. To some people, the ring is symbolic, but to others, it's just a metaphorical sign saying "I'm married, stay away". If someone is secure in their marriage, and chooses not to wear a ring, it shouldn't be any of your, or anyone else's business. Why do you care?
This ties into this thread.

and all this shiat about wedding rings being worn and not being able to and i don't care if he does is bull shiat. if the band is meant to say that you are betrothed to someone and that it is supposed to be eternal then all wedding bands should be tattooed on the wedding finger not worn. and if it didn't work out and you married again, you just have another band tattooed on your finger letting everyone know that the first or second or third was not your true love. but i think no one loves someone so much that they will tattoo their wedding bands on their fingers, that in my mind is forever love

After being married for so long it doesn't seem as if the metal means anything as much as their true devotion does. Most of those who defended this claim were a bit older than those who opted for the 'band on'. I opt for the 'band on' claim but again, what experience do I have to show?

love is eternal so should the band. tattoos are forever. anyone not opting for matching tats are going for the short term marriages

Why should the band be eternal? If such a thing as 'love' (a thing of the soul and mind) can be eternal, how can the band then be eternal if it is physical? Physical things can be broken down into a countless number of things. Your so-called eternal band may one day end up in a pawn shop after the loved ones perish, is the band itself still eternal even after it is broken down?

yo dummy.... no gold band, if you love someone enough to walk down the aisle then you get tattooed, not go buy a hunk of metal

Same difference, metal or ink. Both symbolize the same and both can be taken away either by melting pot or laser surgery.

laser surgery doesn't make it look like it never happened you will always have a little reminder on that finger

I would hope that one would have that 'little reminder' etched into their mind after being married no matter how many times.

thats why i said ,if you plan on taking the walk down the aisle, then if it fails, your ring finger will tell future SOers what kind of past marriages you have had and be a warning if they should try their luck at it with you

When my grand parents died, I took my grand daddy's wedding band as a reminder.
Of them and their marriage, of the family. That ring meant more to me than the three engagement rings I have had...
For myself and the person I choose to try and make a life with... Physical reminders of what we share would be a constant through our lives... I'd plant a tree for every year.. I'd keep a reminder of everything he gave me.. I'm very sentimental.. The rings, yeah I'd get one.. It wouldn't be the one thing that symbolized our marriage so I wouldn't mind if he didn't wear it all the time.. Maybe even just on our anniversary or on special occasions.. I'd be so grateful that a man stuck around that long.. I would't care if he put the ring through his nose.

I goes NOWHERE without my bling-bling.

Earrings in both ears, through the bottom lip, eyebrow, both nipples, and a prince albert. Not to mention a gold rolex the size of a cantaloupe, a rope thick gold necklace and a wrist chain on the arm without the rolex.

Bleh, I don't like that idea. What if you weren't the one at fault in the marriage and when you go to hit the single life again you are labled before even approached.
