After reading the following article on WTOP CDC: Antiques Can Pose Mercury Hazard, I got to wondering what the proper disposal method was for mercury. Anybody know?

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately, it was nearly useless. Gotta love MD gooberment. The calendar had nothing on it. Only thing of use I found was the statement to call your county to see if they are having a hazardous waste pickup day. Since we don't have municiple trash pick up, I doubt it applies to us.MMDad said:
If you're talking St. Mary's, here's the release for last year: http://www.co.saint-marys.md.us/docs/press/releases/pressrelease.asp?id=748huntr1 said:Thanks for the link. You've seen the bottle of mercury my father gave me when they moved to Ga.?Lenny said:Put it in a small dark glass medicine bottle with a tight cap on it. Put it on the back part of a high-up shelf in your closet. Leave it there for your heirs to deal with when you die of natural causes.
I had a few pounds of the stuff years ago from an unnamed source. Used to dip into it and let it swirl around in my hand. Felt cool. It's the vapor thats really bad.huntr1 said:You've seen the bottle of mercury my father gave me when they moved to Ga.?
He didn't want to throw it in the trash, and didn't know how to dispose of it, so he gave it to me to dispose of. I have it in a box filled with packing material, stored where it'll be safe away from the kids. I remember playing with the mercury when I was a kid. Explains alot, doesn't it.
