Metrocast Upgrade is anything but ...

Is anyone else dealing with issues with Metrocast's forced "upgrade" to digital cable? We can't watch a program without getting the black screen of no connection every single evening. Don't know about the daytime because I'm not home then. It is really annoying to keep getting interrupted during the programming and no improvement seems in site. And it goes it waves. UGH!!! Seriously, not interested in such a deficient product being foisted off on all of us.

The only problem we've had is freezing/skipping as far as cable. Our phone service has been worse.

I am getting the same issue and my TV is digital ready.

Also, their multi-room DVR system is crap, I have to reboot the system at least every other day.

Metrocrap has really gone down hill the past year or so, too bad they are the only game in town when it comes to cable.

I have had no issues whatsoever. Other than I had to go get the two boxes for the TVs in the spare bedrooms.

But as far as black screens, or any other interruption of TV or Internet, none at all.

As soon as you are seeing the issue call them. They will likely be able to remotely check into what is going on in your system. I know they have done that in the past if I called concerning internet connectivity. Just best to do it while it is happening. Easier for them to troubleshoot

I have had their HD converter box for several years now and have had problems with TBS HD, TNT HD, FX HD freezing and skipping a few seconds here and there from the beginning.

I'm dropping their cable today.

Have Rokus for all the TVs, upgraded to the Ultra internet and got a Basic Talk phone set up from Wal-Mart and I'm on the wait list for Aero

Off to turn in my phone modem and the little converter boxes. Getting a regular modem to hook into my wireless router.

:howdy: till I'm back on line

YES!! No signals, picture freezing up, muted channels. Thought perhaps it was our televisions (although they are new and should not need converter boxes). Frustrating.

Glad it's not just me. Yep. Controls just lock up, frozen screens and sometimes it requires a reboot of the machine or even the whole house server (the Jayhawk?) which means if you reboot when it's recording, you lose it all.

It seems to lock up the most if you are watching something when something else starts recording.

....and that's why I'm dropping TV service.

Redskins season is technically over and anything else I watch I can get from Hulu , Netflix or online.

..... except American Horror story :cds: haven't found that yet

I am totally pissed off that I can't use my VCR's anymore! I have 5 TV's and only one is "digital ready" and the rest require the boxes...but they do not work! Hard to wrap my mind around the 84.12 etc. stations, and not good ol channel 4!.. I always thought that monopolys were outlawed in the 20"s?? What ever happened to that? And no I do not want dish or Direct TV! I will live with this...but STILL do not like it!!!

LOL You should have been here when I found a couple 8 track tapes in a junk box a few months back and showed my sons. LOL

My youngest (16) starts picking at it like he is trying to open it. I think he thought that was the outer box or something.

I had the same problems with loss of signals. I'll pass a word of advice along: LOSE the VCR's and anything else in-line from the cable feed that your signal passes through. Each older analog component provides a source of attenuation to your signal. (Think of it as a water hose being choked off)

The newer digital sets need to be provided a strong/clean signal to maintain quality.

As far as the channels, yeah, it takes a while to get used to but there's more.
And if using one of the converter boxes (2 free ones- you gain access to online digital radio programs/channels.

Metrocast has a spreadsheet file on the website to download/print out.

Look at the rotary program guide, see the channel (ie: 36/7-weather channel), pick the new channel (ie:-86.6 for the new digital channel.

Another example: Ch 97- Program Guide (old), Ch 14-13 Program Guide (new).

After awhile, you'll memorize the channels and it will be second nature.

Hope this helps ease your frustration.

I for one, like the new format !

RE: Conversion Issues

Another late thought,

How many times has your signal been spliced off from splitters at the main feed?

Splitters have a certain dB ratio as well that robs your signal for multiple sources.

have a tech come in and read out your cable feeds with a rf /signal strength meter. I did that last year and was surprised of how much signal strength was being attenuated.

At that time, my main issue was loss fo connectivity for my cable modem feed. Once it was corrected, no more problems.

We have the same problem, loss of signal, black screen, and sometimes it's like the channel just disappears completely.

I have had Metrocast here twice now, and they tell me everything is fine. My signals are within the recommended range. They suggest we get the converter boxes, even through all 5 of our TVs are digital.

The second time I called they sent me 2 coupons for free movies on demand. " for my troubles" . They also told me that they have not had any complaints like mine.

I am not happy with this change at all! We never had a problem until the new upgrade.

Anybody else get the slight time difference between the video and audio?

Reminds me of old Japanese monster movies
