Metrocast vs. Verizon Internet Service

Verizon is offering high speed internet service for $17.99 per month with a 2 year contract. That includes all taxes and fees. After the 2 year contract the price will remain $17.99 as long as you remain with Verizon. That is less than half of what I am paying for Metrocast. Other than the price I have been happy with Metrocast, but the offer is really tempting. What are your concerns with this offer?

Is that price added on top of regular phone service or does Verizon allow people to by Internet service a-la-carte?

We only have internet service with Metrocast. We have Directv so we could combine it with the Verizon phone service and internet service. I am wondering if there are any reasons other than price why I should stay with Metrocast? Such as reliability, speed and customer service.

Can you actually buy cable Interner service from Metrocast without having to by TV service? I've been wanting to switch to DirecTV or Dish but wasn't sure what to do about Internet service?

I'm paying more for my Verizon DSL too!!! whats up w/dat?!?!

I pay more than that for my Verizon DSL...hope I'm not getting screwed. -.- Just did that test though and I'm running at 3,000kbs download/700kbs upload. I'm a 'gamer' myself and never had any lag issues, even with a roommate using his X-Box online at the same time.

Had cable for a while though and it was always in and out. To date, after two years of DSL service I've never lost it for more than 10 minutes and everytime I called to report it the automated message thing already knew it was down...spooky. o_O

WOW 8621/2148 Comcast Triple Play PLUS HD/DVR $$$$$$$$$$$$$
but it's cool
You have to watch Comcast like a hawk everytime your bill comes out. They keep going up a few dollars everymonth for some "new" BS, they claim is an upgrade that you didn't authorize. My service is still the same crappy cable internet and crappy channels its always been from day one. Not to mention, their service techs are about as dumb as a bag of dirty diapers.

Can you ping me now? Good
That pisses me off. I'm paying for the 7mbs package and yet my speed test said I only hit 3mbs. Wonder if I can downgrade?

Are you sure your paying for a 7m package? Or are you just paying more for the 3m package then what it's currently priced at?

Depends on when you signed your contract and at what price. If it is the 3m plan I would just call!

Verizon? You must have a old package. The lowest they offer now is 1m/384kbps.

If your paying the same or more then the $17.99 offer I would call.

Upgraded today to the 1.0m hookup for $21.99
The $17.99 is ONLY for new customers

The 3m deal was $23 for 3 months and then it went to $30

I also downgraded my landline to the $5.99 and $0.10 a call economy service

I have been battling verizon since 2002 for high speed access. For certain areas of the county we may never get access i.e Piney point, Breton Bay for example. If you work your way through the verizon system you will eventually end with the engineers in annapolis or the mid atlantic engineers in Virginia Beach. You will get a standard answer "your area is in the plans" We have been in the plans since 2002. Verizons concentration is VIOS with many of the verizon technicians traveling from st marys to Montgomery County for installs. The closest area for VIOS is LaPlata southern Charles. We are, as they told the county commissioners in the plans. Contact the county commissioner who retired from the phone company and ask him when you will get what everybody else gets north of waldorf for less than 20 dollars.

We can't get DSL in Tall Timbers. I did read something on this board in the past year that said they are supposed to put up a new tower at the Valley Lee Fire Station. Don't know if that's actually going to happen, or when.

We have Verizon cell service and our signal comes from a tower in VA when we're at home.
