Salsa's

Take it from me (I used to live 10-15 minutes from Tijuana) are the most authentic Mexican food around here. :yay:

"Authentic" as in run to the bathroom every hour for a week? (tamale stand in TJ)

None of them are really "authentic." It's all Americanized, but that's what they need to do to please the crowds here. As long as a mexican restaurant serves something "alfredo" you are not getting authentic. Fajitas are not authentic.

I've been to Salsa's, Monterrey, Cerro Grande, and Mexico, and they are almost identical in quality, service, and price. They're all adequate.

Has anyone been to La Tolteca in PF?

Has anyone been to La Tolteca in PF?

I've heard it's very good..no liquor license.

We like Mexico (PF) and go just about once a week. We have our favorite dishes, we like the staff and the meal is good and the service even better.

Mexican food also varies by region so the way food is prepared can vary from restaurant to restaurant.

You drank the water didn't you :lmao:

I can say this, for as many times as I went to TJ and Rosarita, I was lucky enough not to get Montezuma's Revenge. I ate at resturants, the little taco stands, the street vender carts, even drank the water when I stayed at someone's house down there.

No where around here will you get the SoCal Mexican food unless it is a chain like Baja Fresh.

Rosarita yum did you get some Lobsters while you were there?

You are right no where will you get local food but you will get close and Salsas is as close as you can get. La tol Teca in La Plata/Waldorf is good as well but they asked for a resturant in St Marys. The restaurants around here are more like the drive through shops like Albertos etc. out in San Diego.

My all time favorite thing is Carne Asada Fries they are to die for :yay:

Personally, I thought Monterey's was much better overall
The only issue there was the fact that the waiter just happened to have the tattoo of (and i'm assuming was a member of) an infamous (mostly) Hispanic gang...i'll let you guess which one...yes, its the one your thinking of :lmao:.

other than that, I loved everything. Food was great (awesome chimis). service was good, waiter was nice..ect.

Salsas just doesn't quite cut it for me in most respects. I mean, the food is decent enough but it just doesn't seem like i'm eating true mexican. I'll still eat there (actually probably going there this weekend) because it is good, but I would just consider Montereys to be better.

Didn't have the lobsters. I was taken to some dive place and had fried shrimp tacos :yummy: as well as calamari and other stuff, I had no idea what I was eating :lmao: The food from Papa's and Beer was yummy.

My all time fav is a wet grilled chicken burrito with sour cream  What I would give for one of those from the Taco King (down the sidewalk from my old apartment in San Diego).

When I first got there, I lived on North Island. Then I moved off base to Imperial Beach for a month or so, but then found a kick ass place 1 mile from Qualcom stadium. There are times when I miss that apartment because if I could walk somewhere, I would. It was so much easier, except for those three flights of stairs.

The big difference in the tacos there and here is they use cabbage instead of lettuce which makes all the difference, at least to me it does.

Was your apartment over by the Kaiser Building? So you were right in the heart of things... two huge malls within 5 minutes of each other.:yay:

I love the cabbage too... it sounds odd but is soooo good.

You know I hate to admitt this but my favorite tacos though are the Monster Taco from Jack in the Box. When I lived in MB we hit the box almost nightly:drool:
