Michael Bloomberg Wants Private, Armed Police Force Patrolling Johns Hopkins

On a related note, why must every single police officer be armed? At the very least, why does every officer need to carry it at all times? I can see 1-2 on a shift carrying for urgent situations but arming everyone invites them to pull guns on people.

Agreed. After all, when criminals come at them, they can just call for the reinforcement that HAS the gun, like we have to call for a cop since WE can't have guns like the criminals do. Because, when seconds count, their reinforcements should be there in just a few minutes or so.

Good point, Jimmy!

They could draw straws or something for which one of them will carry the gun and the rest have to aim their finger and go, "Pew! Pew!"

I say no because guns are bad and walls don't work. That Michael Bloomberg would even suggest it speaks to his white supremacy and patriarch privilege, not to mention racism and last but not least, mansplaining. Did I miss any? Hell, Bloomberg is practically the KKK. Wonder how many women he raped yesterday.

My thing with Bloomberg is that he is so anti-gun in New York, but he comes to Baltimore and recommends guns.

It takes Jimmy fifteen minutes to make a split second decision.

Remember next election Vote PCP!

Agreed; good possible solution. Important to note, however, the straws cannot be plastic.

But in all honesty - I don't like ANY area of Baltimore. I'd be hard pressed to think of anywhere in
the city I'd rather JH be, because there's no single large area of Baltimore that isn't a craphole.

Baltimore as a whole is terrible. However, that is speaking to an average. There ARE nice(r) areas. The waterfront in my locations is nice. Think Inner Harbor and points west (Harbor East, Fells Point, etc.). Very nice/safe. In fact, I run several times a week in the early morning hours (before sun up) along the promenade through these areas. You run into the occasional homeless person but all in all, I've never felt unsafe or witness anything out of sorts.

Now, you go a few blocks north and I don't like being in my car in the middle of the day. In some areas, you're really looking for trouble simply by being there. And while the area around Hopkins isn't the best, it's far from the worse. I am generally not sympathetic to the old "stuck in the cycle" routine, but some of these places are so desolate, it's hard to imagine someone being able to stick to a hopeful plan of education and prosperity. I have a feeling many of these kids simply have nothing and don't even know how to work for something.

I can't imagine you put my thought into this statement or, at a minimum, have no one close to you who is or was with the police. I have several close friends who are with various "local" departments (Calvert, Charles, MD State, District of Columbia). Some of these jurisdictions not only have you armed while on duty, some want you armed while off. Some of these cops (DC in particular) are targets to the extent that they are not allowed to be in uniform while off-duty .......... while driving to / from work. They are targets.

More so, they are trained and relied upon to protect the community - whether working or not. It would be asinine to think they were unable to stop a situation because they had to leave their gun in a lock box at work at the end of the day. Most consider themselves "on-duty" 24-hours a day though only being paid for 8.

I'm also curious how a routine traffic stop would work. Would each officer need to call in for their armed supervisor before approaching the car he pulled over for the missing taillight? Come on now.

Inner Harbor's a #### hole and so is Fell's Point. You can't sit on any of the benches because homeless people are sleeping on them. Then at dusk the druggies rise and roam.

It's generally safe at Power Plant on a weekend night because there are so many people, but even then you have to be careful and use the multiple buddy system. It really is a shame what the politicians have done to that city.

Hmmm....good point. Perhaps they can do "rock/paper/scissors". That's eco-friendly.

Hmmm, sounds like you are advocating picking "winners" and "losers" Missy...... we'll have none of that elitist crap round here.

Last time I took the bike to Langhorne, PA, I set the nav to avoid highways. Took me right through Inner Harbor about 1pm. Yeah, I was pretty aware that it was less than awesome. It took me northwest out of the city from there, through some worse areas, but I wasnt feeling super safe in either place when at a stop light. And that was on the utilitarian bike that looked mostly like a collection of industrial Tupperware information. On the new pretty shiny, I would NOT cruise through there.

Ooh! I've got it!

Hire Oprah to give out the guns to the police force. "You get a gun, and you get a gun, and you get a gun....everybody gets a gun!" And the Left will applaud wildly and love it, because...Oprah.
