Again you type to fast for me........... :jameo:
Thanks, I might be able to win a bet today with this info.
What make me really curious is why Maryland has not ammended its section(s) to bring the state into complience???????

Also I wonder why aren't bikes coming equipt with these devices when new. They work better than any other safety device I have seen for Motorcycles on the highway, especially during daylight.

You guys post to fast for me, I can't type that fast.
That link gives me a starting point, but it doesn't tell me under what Federal Law it falls. The section numbers give me a starting point, I will figure it out. If it is a DOT section then Maryland needs to ammend there exceptions to include it.
Go to the MD Abate site and read what the MSP wrote to them about modulators.

Interesting. MD law could be interpreted to say turn signals and emergency flashers are illegal

I just went and pulled out the ASED ruling I got from State Police. As I said in my original post, it was a long while back, 2001. Federal Law(s) must have been passed since then. Thats a good thing, But I am still curious why Md. is dragging their feet to adopt the exception. Most patrol officers will use the Maryland Transportation Code when enforcing traffic Law and won't even know to look at federal codes unless they work truck enforcement.

I will follow up with another tip. If you have one of these, print out a copy of the Federal code and tuck it somewhere on the bike. If you get stopped, you will be able to show the officer the over riding Federal law. I promise you they will be surprised :faint:
I will pass it on to the training Division.

The Mayland vehicle code is a long drawn out set of laws. If you go back several sections in the book it outlines the requirements for haveing turn signals, stop lights etc...
Then, once you review these, you have to go to the Maryland "Rules and Regulations" to see the inspection laws to review what will pass and what won't.

Yea, but I am not going to get mixed up in the childish banter going back and forth on other parts of this site.
I just spoke with several other officers I work with who work aggresive traffic enforcement alot. They had not heard of the Federal code either and were a bit miffed they didn't know about it. We all agreed its a good thing and a needed safety item but, Maryland needs to step up and ammend its laws so its clear to everyone.

So, what does it take to get that done? Who's attention do we bring it too?
